A new question is answered every 9 seconds has infected my Safari running the current

Customer Question has infected my Safari running the current version on OS 10.7.5. When I force quit to lose the bogus "call this number" screen, i reopen Safari.
But the same annoying audible alarm sounds, and both Clear History at the bottom of History - as well as Reset Safari - are grayed out.
Safari is dead in the water, and i read using Chrome that this premiummachelp malware can be particularly nasty and invade other applications and operational items.
Please help me get around the grayed-out reset Safari and Clear History in Safari's pulldowns after this happens.
Or tell me how else i can salvage Safari use rather than go with some other lame browser.
