Customer Question

I need to convert some videos that are in MP4 format. I want to edit them, but I have a mac and use Final Cut Pro X. Final Cut does not recognize these files, thus I can't import them. What should I do?

Hi and Welcome. My Name is ***** ***** I look forward to assisting you today with your question.

You have to convert them to MOV (Quicktime) to import them to FCPX.

You can use MPEG Stream Clip --> http://www.squared5.com/

or Handbrak ---> https://handbrake.fr/

There are also many paid premium converters out there like iSkysoft Converter, ImToo Converter etc. Try the above ones and let me know if it doesn't work.

Hi Ashik:I tried both of your suggestions, but unfortunately none worked. With DC30, it's not working. Perhaps it is because my OS X is too recent (10.11)? And as for Handbrake, when I select the mp4 as a source, it says "No Valid Source Found." Do you have any other ideas?

Those are free apps and limited in functionality. Can you try iSkysoft converter ? Get it from here --> http://www.iskysoft.com/video-converter-mac.html

Use the trial version. Are you able to convert with it ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I was able to convert, but the final output is a .mov with a gray screen. Is this what it does to all the free trial users? Does it really work? I would have to spend $35 to find out...

Partially able to convert

I can't see the video. Can I connect to your Mac and take a look ?

Expert:  Ashik replied 1 year ago.

Don't buy it yet. You have to select correct format otherwise the output will be distorted. I will download it on my Mac and let you know the correct settings.

I was able to convert the video using iSkysoft in color. Can you try again please ?

Expert:  Ashik replied 1 year ago.

Open iSkysoft. Drag your MP4 video to it. At the bottom, select Editing. Select FCP X and convert. Let me know the results please
