Hi and thanks for your submission.

First up, a silly and simple question, have you checked your Trash folder?

John

Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Ok, good!

Next up have you tried using Spotlight to find it?

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
if I click on a Pages document saved on screen, I keep getting Pacifist which gives no help
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Thought it might open by clicking Pages item saved to screen- but just keep getting Pacifist which is of no help
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Ok, if you Ctrl-Click or Right-click on a Pages document, you should see a pop-up menu. One of the options will normally be "Open With". If you hover your mouse over that option does Pages appear in the list at all?

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No it doesn't!
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Ok :-(

Somehow it would appear that Pages has been deleted from your Mac entirely. Do you keep Time machine backups, by chance?

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
sadly, no
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Any idea how it could have happened?
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

That is something I can't answer, I'm afraid. Have you made any changes to your Mac recently, upgraded or removed any other software?

Also, do you have the original iWork install disc that may have come with your Mac?

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I havent done anything I can think of - will have to check if I still have the install disc.
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Ok,

you will need to install from the original disc and then apply the following update:

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1097?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

If you can not find the disc then we may be able to find a workaround.

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
would that be the applications install dvd? if so I've found it
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Normally there should be a separate disc just for iWork.

You might, also, be able to download the software via the Mac App Store app.

Open the Mac App Store App.

Choose the "Purchased" option at the top of the window. (You may need to sign in)

If Pages is listed, click "Install".

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Tried the Purchase click earlier but it said it wasnt purchased
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Ok, in that case it did indeed come from a disc.

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Will I try the general install disc - and if so do I have to uninstall things first? i am not very advanced, as you can tell!
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

If you want to double check the Applications install DVD, insert the disc and run the installer BUT only go as far looking at the list of apps it will try to install (There may be a "Custom" button to display this list). If you by chance see the iWork apps listed then you should make sure only Pages is selected for install. Otherwise, you risk installing older releases of other software.

If that does not work for you, next please provide your Mac's serial number.

Click the Apple logo in the menu bar at the top left of the screen

Select "About This Mac"

In the window that opens, look for the "Version" information. PleasNext, repeatedly click on the word "Version" until it says "Serial Number”.

Thanks,

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It says Bundled Software - is it safe to continue?
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

Where are you seeing that?

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
When the disc loads - an agreement icon and another "Bundled Software" one- I started to let it run but panicked as there seemed no list
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

You can run the Bundled Software icon in that case but one or two screens in there should be a list.

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No list showing yet
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

What do you see on screen?

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It's busy -says writing files
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

I'm not sure where that might be within the process for your version of the Bundled Software disc but it does not normally go straight into installing.

John

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Afraid it has - should I c ontinue or just call it a day?
Expert:  John T. F. replied 1 year ago.

If it's working on it's own, then I would let it finish at this point so as not to leave anything partially installed and let me have the serial number in the meantime.

couple of minutes for that part to go

Thanks,

it looks like your Mac is from Mid-2010. As such you are eligible for a newer release of iWork for free. However, in order to download it you must upgrade your version of OS X.

You can download it here:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/os-x-el-capitan/id1018109117?mt=12

Then all the iWork updates will be available on the App Store.
