Please go to the Apple logo at the upper left of your computer screen to About This Mac and give me this information:

  • The exact system Version (listed right under Mac OS X)
  • Processor
  • Memory

OK you should update to 10.10.5 before doing anything because the new Photos app is available now.

Then to export your photos:

  • Select Export on Tools menu. And then select the device or fodler where the images will be exported to.
  • Select the images you want to export and add them to the Add media files by dragging them here. area on the right side of the window.
  • Select NEXT. The Export Media Files window will display.
  • If you want to change the size of the images, select Settings... on Export Media Files window and change the size of the images. Select Export to start exporting the images.
  • Do not disconnect the connection between the computer and the external hard drive or folder while exporting the video or photo.
  • When the completion dialog box appears, click OK.
  • Then you can import those to iPhoto or Photos
