MacBook pro 15" screen flickered then went to a deep blue

Customer Question

MacBook pro 15" screen flickered then went to a deep blue while using it in Safari. I couldn't do anything and it wouldn't respond so I held the power button to shut it off. When I try to start it now it just stays on a black screen and doesn't do anything. I'm typing to you from my computer at work

Thanks

It is the internal motherboard that has faulted.

We have ruled everything else out

I am really sorry about this and you are going to have to return the macbook to have this replaced. It will be covered by the warranty if this has not expired, and the replacement will be done at no cost to you.

I am really sorry about this, and if you have problems, or would like any additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.

And if you can take a second to rate my service, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

this computer is about 4-5 years old... I would assume way past warrenty, about how much do you think this will cost to replace?
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

ok, with this age, a repair will not be economically feasible, it costs more then the worth as you get a limited warranty. I would advise to put it on Ebay to sell for the screen, hard drive ect and purchase a replacement, its not worth having this problem really repaired sorry

I'm not sure I can currently afford a new MacBook, what would the average computer tech charge for parts and labor on this roughly do you think?
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

Average would be around $500 with labor and parts, but then you get a limited warranty.

Could this be done at a best buy location or does this have to been done by apple?
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

Not best buy but a computer repair store will do it cheaper then apple
