Have been having large problems with my Imail account. Mainly my fault as I messed mu resetting my password. Have forgotten what password ***** originally had etc.

Do you mean your Apple email account? Can you sign in here and see your email?

No, I cannot sign into my Icloud account. It asked me to reset my password, and I messed up the old password, so what it has done is lock me out. It will not let me reset because of this. I also reset my security questions. I think the account has to be reset. As you can see I have a second email account which is not affected.
