Hello there! Please follow the steps below to fix your issue.

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  3. Turn on your Mac.
  4. Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the THIRD time.

  5. Release the keys.

hi - thanks for that, i tried the above but only heard the mac restart once and then it came up with the utilities/start up page?

Try again and make sure to firmly hold the all 4 keys. The reason that came up is because only the command and r key were being pushed. Make sure not to let go of the keys till the mac resets 4 times
