Thanks.

Do you still get a disabled/passcode screen or only the Connect to iTunes image?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

i get both

Expert:  John T. F. replied 10 months ago.
Okay, which screen are you on currently?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

ipad is disabled

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

can you help please?

Expert:  John T. F. replied 10 months ago.
Okay, do you know which version of iTunes you have installed?
Customer: replied 10 months ago.

not sure, the latest....was downloaded earlier this evening

Expert:  John T. F. replied 10 months ago.
Okay, good. Are you running any third party anti-virus or firewall software?

Also, do you normally sync and backup this iPad to the computer without issue?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

yes spyhunter, this ipad has never been synced with any computer

Expert:  John T. F. replied 10 months ago.
Do you sync/back up to iCloud?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

no

Expert:  John T. F. replied 10 months ago.
Okay, before we go any further I must point out that once the Passcode is removed, all personal content on the iPad will be lost. Purchases can be re-downloaded but the data itself will be gone. There is no way around this due to lack of backup.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

Thanks john, yes i understand this....im worried i cannot remove this passcode

Expert:  John T. F. replied 10 months ago.
Since the iPad has never been synced with this computer previously that is part of the reason you are having trouble getting past iTunes complaint of the passcode.

There is only a single end user method to bypass this. It is very similar to a restore but it recovers the device at a deeper level in order to clear the passcode.

* Open iTunes on your computer and connect the Apple device directly to it

* Turn off the Apple device (press the sleep/wake button on the top until you see the red slider and slide the red slider across to the right OR until the device simply shuts off, if locked up).

* Hold down the sleep/wake button (on the top) AND the home button (on the front) for 10 seconds

* Release the sleep/wake button but CONTINUE to hold the home button, until...

* iTunes should pop up and tell you it’s found a device in recovery mode, click ok and continue along for the restore.

Note: When you are in DFU mode the device's screen will be completely black.

If you see an image on the iPad screen at this point then stop the procedure and try again and let me know. This is a very tricky procedure and if there is anything on the screen then it's not DFU mode and won't remove the passcode.

Assuming the screen is blank, however, let it proceed with the restore.

If it doesn’t work the 1st time, start from the beginning and try again. If iTunes *still* doesn't recognize the device properly for restore and it doesn't go into DFU mode, plug it into a DIFFERENT USB port and try once more.

If you receive misc errors when attempting to install/uninstall or sync after installation, try temporarily disabling any anti-virus or firewall software you may be running such as Spyhunter.

If you still have concerns, please do not negatively rate my answer, simply reply back before rating. I'll be more than happy to work with you further. Hopefully, this info will answer your question. When you are satisfied, please give my answers a positive rating. You are judging my personal service only (not this website or your issue) and high ratings assure I remain in good standing.

Thanks and good luck,

Expert:  John T. F. replied 10 months ago.
What error does iTunes currently give?
Customer: replied 10 months ago.

ipad cannot be restored (3004)

Expert:  John T. F. replied 10 months ago.
Simple qustion but is the time/date correct on your computer?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

yes

Expert:  John T. F. replied 10 months ago.
Okay, let's temporarily turn off the Windows firewall to see if it improves matters.

Open Windows Firewall by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Security, and then clicking Windows Firewall.

Click Turn Windows Firewall on or off. If you are prompted for an administrator password XXXXX confirmation, type the password XXXXX provide confirmation.

Click Off (not recommended), and then click OK.

Try the DFU procedure once more.

Remember to turn the Firewall back on after testing and/or success.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

no.....still no luck john

Expert:  John T. F. replied 10 months ago.
Okay, that's unfortunate. Do you have access to another computer?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

still not resolved

Expert:  John T. F. replied 10 months ago.
Hi,

if you answered my previous question it did not make it to me; Do you have access to another computer?

John
Customer: replied 10 months ago.

this would be easier in a chat format, having to continually refresh a page to see and answer aswell as site pop ups asking me to pay even more money is a pain......No i have no access to another pc at the moment, i have since tried another computer to no avail

I'm sorry the site is being troublesome for you. I am not an employee of JustAnswer and have no control over that.

If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  3. Click Create a new account.

  4. Type the name you want to give the user account, choose Computer Administrator account type, and then click Create Account.

Log out of the current user, log in to the new test account and then try DFU mode once again.

DFU Mode is your only option here and it works in the case of all software issues. If DFU mode can not be used under the new account or on another computer after being done correctly then this points to something more serious such as a hardware problem.

For convenience, here are the DFU steps again;

If you see an image on the iPad screen at this point then stop the procedure and try once more.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

Nope still no joy John....looks like my only option is to take this to an apple repair store?

Expert:  John T. F. replied 10 months ago.
I'm very sorry to hear that but that does seem to be the case given the situation you are in. It's often a bit tricky to get into DFU mode on these devices but not anywhere near the trouble that you are having... and Apple doesn't really have any other options I can give you to perform as an end user with the tools you have available.
