When will Eudora be compatible with Mac OS 10.6 and above. I love my Eudora, but need it to function on higher level Macs, and still have functioning with previous Eudora......

ehabtutor :

Hi

ehabtutor :

welcome to justanswer

ehabtutor :

My name isXXXXX and i will be assisting you today

ehabtutor :

tell me when you are ready

ehabtutor :

Eudora is supposed to be running uptill Mac OS 10.6 with no problems.

ehabtutor :

The problem is with higher OS versions as Eudora is based on an application named Rosetta which is no longer there starting OS 10.7

Customer:

I made a mistake, my new MacBook Air is version 10.8.4 but I cannot use it until my Eudora is functioning

Customer:

Can Eudora accommodate the new Mac platforms?

ehabtutor :

As far as Eudora announced they are not planning a major change in their code to change the way it works until now

ehabtutor :

Are you open for Eudora alternatives?

Customer:

I suppose, if there is no other choice, but I have yet to find an email program that can do what Eudora does

Customer:

I would need to have access to previous Eudora emails for references and comments

ehabtutor :

As for old emails , I am sure there are many way to import the data from eudora

ehabtutor :

let me give you a list of alternatives

ehabtutor :

hold on for a couple of minutes

Customer:

ok

Customer:

FYI, I am writing you on a MacBook Pro, 10.6.4, but my new laptop is the MacBook Air 10.8.4

ehabtutor :

yeah i understand

ehabtutor :

I am using Thunderbird as my mail client

ehabtutor :

it has a mac version and it is a very nice mail app with lots and lots of features and plugins

Customer:

ok, haven

Customer:

t heard much about it

ehabtutor :

and its also for free, its from Mozilla

ehabtutor :

a very popular company which is the developer of firfox browser as well

Customer:

don't mind paying if it is more secure and better

ehabtutor :

I understand, but i am recommending this as i have been using it for 3 years now on my windows 7 pc.

ehabtutor :

It have many features, good support and is very reliable

ehabtutor :

The alternative is to go for Outlook for Mac from microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/outlook

Customer:

ok, give me a few minutes to see what I can cook up here....I have to say though that the fact you are still using a PC is interesting

ehabtutor :

:)

ehabtutor :

for outlook you will have to buy a license for office for Mac which is around 219.99

ehabtutor :

The only difference in my opinion is the fancy looks for outlook.

Customer:

Whew

Customer:

is that annually?

ehabtutor :

so my suggestion is to give Thunderbird a trial. it is really functional with lots of features and for free

ehabtutor :

no its a one time license

ehabtutor :

their is an annual option for office 365 which is 99 $

Customer:

ok, I will look at thunderbird

ehabtutor :

check the licenses here

ehabtutor :

These would be useful to consult for Thunderbird installation: Account Configuration , Installing Thunderbird

Customer:

am downloading now on other computer

ehabtutor :

ok

ehabtutor :

I am getting you also the instructions to import from eudora the mails, contacts, etc..

ehabtutor :

This is an article for importing data from Eudora into Thunderbird. Automatic importing works if they are on the same unit, which is not your case

Customer:

ok great

ehabtutor :

You will have to use this tool: its called the Eudora Mailbox Cleaner: http://andreasamann.com/MacOSX/Eudora_Mailbox_Cleaner

ehabtutor :

you will find the download link at the bottom of the page

Customer:

ok

ehabtutor :

check the instructions and limitations on this page to know what can be imported and what can't be

Customer:

for some reason, I couldn't download thunderbird....got stuck at 1.2 mb... will try again

ehabtutor :

really?

ehabtutor :

this is weired

ehabtutor :

you can try this download page as an alternative: https://www.macupdate.com/app/iphone/11942/thunderbird

ehabtutor :

you can find the download link at the top

ehabtutor :

My second choice would be AirMail: http://airmailapp.com/

ehabtutor :

its for 2$ on the apple store, but its more basic than thunderbird

Customer:

the reviews here are suggesting airmail as well.....will see, still trying to download

ehabtutor :

you can check its features here: http://airmailapp.com/features

ehabtutor :

you can actually give both a trial before deciding on which to use

ehabtutor :

after all applications are more of a personal preference

ehabtutor :

:)

Customer:

see lots of glowing reports for Eudora....worked great and had a very intuitive interface....but not carried on subsequent mac platforms

Customer:

Eudora would do well to update and go after that market'

ehabtutor :

yeah unfortunatly

ehabtutor :

I think they got backstabbed by mac

ehabtutor :

not supporting their main core component Rosetta

Customer:

Ok, let me still wrangle the thunderbird here

Customer:

I agree....Rosetta was the key
