Click on Settings -> Mails, Contacts & Calendars
Under Accounts, can you see the bigpond account?
I am going to assist you with this problem but to be honest, i am not sure how quick it will be. Can take 5 minutes or 50 minutes depending on (when we diagnose the issue) and how fast can you follow my instructions.
You need to check if SMTP Server has the username and password XXXXX for bigpond.
You said quickly so i thought i should just tell you the last step so you can do it.
Can you go to Settings -> Mails, Contacts, Calendars
Under Accounts you should see your bigpond account
Tell me what the name of this bigpond account is?
Oh that's really quick.
I'll give you a quick fix:
Get the server details (smtp and pop) from bigpond, delete your mail account from iPad and Re-Add it.
Tell me the email id in this format username @ bigpond.com.au so i can get you the required smtp and pop settings.
please give a space before and after the @ sign
otherwise, i cannot see the email as it becomes filtered through this website.

Can you click on Settings on your iPad
Select Mails, Contacts and Calendars
Under Accounts, Click your bigpond account
The next screen should show you your email address or account name on top in this way
Account (account name here or email)
Click on it
At the bottom click the account again under Advanced
You should see Outgoing Mail Server option and SMTP written
Click on this
On the top under Primary Server click on the Bigponds SMTP
You should then see an option for Server (if it's off turn it on)
You can take a screen shot from iPad by pressing the home button and the power button together
Or you can re-login to this site and open this session by clicking on My Questions and selecting this question
At the bottom enter hostname / username / password

Click Mails, Contacts, Calendars
