my garmin 50 ml

my garmin 50 ml screen is locked up on the garmin name

Sounds like your garmin device is frozen, this can happen for several reasons, and there are a couple of different repairs we can do..So if this first step doesnt fix the issue, please send a reply so that I can continue to assist you.

Please follow the master reset steps as shown on the page below.

When it asks to erase all user data, please choose yes.

on the instructions for the master reset it saids to


start with the garmin turned off, I cannot turn my garmin

If you slide and hold the power button for 2 minutes solid, does the garmin turn off?

yes it shuts off when I hold the power button on


but I tryed to do the master reset again by holding to the


lower right corner and nothing happens

So we got it to shut off.. Thats a good start.

Question, when you were holding the lower right corner of the touchscreen, did you then try to power the unit back on? ( while still holding your finger on the lower right corner? )

yes I could power it back on while holding the lower right corner but it is still frozen on the garmin name

Ok. Lets force it to shut down by holding the power button.

And then, try a few more times to hold the lower right corner, and only then press power.

It may take 4 or five tries, but if we can get it to trigger, and start the reset, then we should be able to fix the issue.

tryed that about 10 times and still can't get it to reset

Question.. Does your Garmin have a SD memory card in it?

Also, are you using a Windows computer, or a mac?

I don't know about the memory card as its my daughter's garmin and I borrowed it and now its not working for me,k but it did for more than a month

lets try connecting the garmin to the computer via its usb cord.

Then, follow these steps.

Lets try to use the garmin communicator program and the garmin dashboard to update your device.

Lets download the garmin communicator plugin, and update the device.

you can install it from here through internet explorer.

Once installed.. connect your garmin to the computer via its usb cord..

Then go here.

Download and then install the Garmin dashboard program.. Once installed.

Run the program.

It should attempt to update the garmin. ( the software)

Can the dashboard see your garmin, and will it let you try to update it?

Dustin, I'm giving up I'm a 77 year old lady and am not


that savy on this stuff, my daughter will be visiting soon and I will have her try to fix it herself
