I had Safari 5.1 and installed 6.0.5. Now I cant open Safari

Customer Question

I had Safari 5.1 and installed 6.0.5. Now I can't open Safari and I receive a message saying "you have Mac OS X 10.6.8. The application requires Mac OS X 10.7 or later". How can I uninstall 6.0.5 and get 5.1 back so I can use the Internet?

Hello Brooklyn! Thank you for your question. I am a licensed computer professional with over ten years of experience, and I will be assisting you today.

I'm sorry about the issue. Please go to the Applications folder, then drag the Safari item to the Trash in order to remove it.

Next, on a working computer, please download and save the Safari 5.1 software file at the website below:
http://www.oldapps.com/mac/safari.php?old_safari=9534?download
, then transfer the downloaded file over via a USB drive
, then you can install Safari 5.1 and use it again.

If that does not work, you can download the Firefox software at the website below:
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

(or at the website http://www.firefox.com/)
, then transfer over via a USB drive
, then install, then you can open Firefox and use the Internet /websites on Firefox.

Please let me know if there is still any issue. You can click on the Reply to Expert tab below and reply back to me, so I can help further as needed.

Edit: How is it going? It looks like you are away; please reply back when you are available to continue. Thank you very much.

Hi.
I moved the Safari icon to trash. The icon is not on my screen now. I saved 5.1 to USB and tried to install it however, got a message saying that I can't because a newer version already exists. So I checked the trash and I couldn't see safari in the list.
What should I do? I just want to use the Internet.

Did you go to the Applications folder in Finder and remove the Safari folder/program there (not just from the Dock)?

Or let's just try my second method; it's easier: from a working computer, please download and save the Firefox software at the website below:

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

(or at the website http://www.firefox.com/)
, then transfer over via a USB drive
, then install, then you can open Firefox and use the Internet /websites on Firefox.

; with Firefox application, you will be able to use the Internet.

Please let me know if there is still any issue. Thank you.

Hi
I tried to delete it from the Applications folder but it just stayed there - I'd drag it to the trash bin and it would bounce back to Applications as if on a bungee cord.
I will try Firefox now.

Sorry, OK, please let me know after trying Firefox.

Edit: Please let me know if you still need help with this issue. Thank you.
