I just bought a new IPAD, 4th generation. When I connect the

I just bought a new IPAD, 4th generation. When I connect the IPAD to ITUNES, it does not appear in the left-hand bar, i.e. the device is not recognised, and therefore I cannot 'restore from ITUNES backup' which is how I believe that I can transfer what is on my existing IPAD to the new one. That is a previous version. All you need to do is to download and install the iTunes version 11 at the website below, then the computer will recognize the new iPad:
