Hello, and thanks for your question. My name is Nick and I will help you today.

Please try to boot in Safe Mode:

  1. Shutdown (turn off) your iMac.
  2. Press the Power button to turn on your Mac.
  3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
  4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon comes up.
  5. Your Mac will boot into Safe Mode.

Does your iMac work better in Safe Mode? Can you go into Disk Utility? Go to Applications->Utilites->Disk Utility.

Please click the Apple logo on top left corner and select About this Mac. What version is the OS X?

Now please restart your iMac. Does it boot normally or still freezing?
