Hi and welcomed to JustAnswer.com. My name isXXXXX will assist you with your issues.
Please let me know when you are ready.
When did you first have this problem?
This has been going on for a few weeks.
Please have Mail open.
I will walk you through the steps
Now click Mail on top and select Mail Preferences
Go to Account Information.
What do you have for incoming and outgoing server?
Do you receive emails?
Yes, but it doesn't seem as easy. The handshake seems to take longer than usual when I check Connection Doctor
Please click on Advanced.
What do you have there?
You have the Port?
993 port with SSL , password XXXXX
no IMAP path Prefix
Please go back to Account Information
At the bottom you will see Outgoing SMTP server
Click on the list and click Edit SMTP list
Now on the top do you see smtp.mail.yahoo.com?
Select it please.
I'm not sure
Did you select Edit SMTP list?
Did a new window open?
I see at the top under Description:
What do you see on the top of the list?
smtp.mail.yahoo.com In use by account: sbcglobal.net2
Now on the bottom what do you have?
Account Information and ADvanced?
In account information I see now Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) [email protected]
this says offline
Please select Advanced tab.
which one? The one under Account info, or under outgoing mail server, edit window?
Under Edit window
the new window.
Do you see Use default ports?
and Use SSL?
yes, default is selected, 25, 465, 587, SSL is selected Authentication is by password
User name is XXXXX XXXXX address
Please select Use custome port
Uncheck Use SSL
Authentication = password
make sure to enter your Email and password.
do I have to reboot Mail for the changes to take place?
Please click OK.
Then close Mail Preferences.
Open Mail and click Get Mail
then try to send or reply an email.
See if it will work
Do I need to keep the SSL unchecked?
Do I need to keep the custom port at 25?
Yes Keep custom port 25 and UNCHECK SSL
What does SSL do?
SSL is for secure certificate
We are doing a port reset.
Quit and open Mail back?
Does unchecking SSL mean that I will be more vulnerable to hackers or malware?
I am connected to SMTP Mail server now.
can you send email?
Try to send to your own email address
I am sending an email now. It seems slow, however. Is it normal to take minutes to send an email?
It's sending at 100kb/s
It really depends on your location and internet speed.
Did you get any error?
Also depends on the email sizes.
I have a 1 mb/s upload speed and I'm wireless
Is there a way to configure my set up so that emails don't take so long to upload?
I can tell you that your email settings are correct.
I'm connected, I see that Mail Activity says I'm sending emails., but I also see in my Outbox 2 emails that I am trying to send with a spinning gear in the Sent lind
Please go to Outbox
and delete those two emails first
Then try to send an email.
Does it send?
Now they got sent
You have solved my problem! Thanks!!!
You are very welcomed.
Glad it worked out.
Regarding the SSL, you do not have to worry.
