Hello,
Welcome to JustAnswer,
I am Pete, and I'll be happy to assist with your question.

What version of OS and Word are you using?
Please let me know what you have already tried?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
I am using Mac OSX 10.7.5 and I am using Windows Word for Mac 2011. I have tried authorizing different versions and opening the file (according to the Word website) and I am about to also try pricey file restore software. Please help!

Hi Brittany,

Have a look in the follwoing folder: Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/Office 2011 AutoRecovery/
If you don't find the previous version of the document there, then your only options are either expensive recovery software (which isn't always guaranteed) or to recover from a backup (e.g. Time Machine or some other backup system).
