I have a CanoScan 8800F. Since I "upgraded" the OS on a MacBook

Customer Question

I have a CanoScan 8800F. Since I "upgraded" the OS on a MacBook Pro to 10.8.3, the scanner will not function. I installed MP Navigator EX Ver. 4.0.3 which is said to be compatible with the Mac OS 10.8. On attempting to open the new Navigator, I have a box that lists compatible scanners. The 8800 F is not on the list. The box says to upgrade the "driver" but does not explain where or how to do this.

Hi, I will assist,

I'm sorry about the scanner issue. Please download and install the driver for your upgraded Mac OS at the website below:
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_8800f#DriversAndSoftware

; select your operating system Mac OS version
; then click on Drivers
; then click on "8800F Scanner Driver Ver. 13.9.2a (OS X 10.5/10... "
; then click on "I Agree - Begin Download" to download and install the driver.

(Or you can download and install the scanner driver directly at the website below:

Please let me know if there is still any issue. Thank you,

Thank you for your response. I had tried installing a driver from a website mentioned on Mac users blog. The websites you found we're more specific. One explicitly specified my scanner model number in selecting the appropriate driver. Unfortunate it didn't fix the problem. After installing it, I get the same message when I try to open the Navigator program i.e. a list of compatible scanners that doesn't inside mine.
My next thought is "Should I downgrade to the old Mac OS?"Again thanks,

Peter

You're welcome. I'm sorry, were you able to download, then install the driver? Is there any error during installation?

Can you try the built-in Mac scan program, such as Image Capture? Please see below:

Please let me know if there is still any issue. Thank you.

I am not dissatisfied. The answer was reasonable. It just didn't address the problem. I sent a follow-up questiion. Maybe the answer will help .

I'm sorry, did you see my last reply today? What happens when installing the driver? Have you tried Image Capture application or Preview application to scan yet? Does it work?

Please only reply via this web page (not via email). If needed, I can open the issue to other Professionals if all fails. Please let me know.

Edit: It looks like you've gone away; please reply back when you are available to continue. Thank you,

The driver and the navigator installer programs both reported "installation successful." Maybe so, but they still won't operate the scanner. I will attempt your other suggestion. I should mention again the scanner worked well with the old MAC OS
Thanks,
Peter
