I was having a problem with my email and a JustAsk expert had

I was having a problem with my email and a JustAsk expert had me do a reinstall. Now the email is working but I can't figure out how to get Time Machine to reinstall my files. (I backed up just before I reinstalled.) Time Machine tells me that I "don't have sufficient access privleges" and doesn't give me the option to restore. Also, I have tried all day long to get my files back and now have a bunch of files in the "Macintosh HD" icon, but I'm not sure what actually belongs there and what I've put in extra.

The computer is old - MAC OS X 10.5.8, and I am moderately techno-illiterate, but I'm doing my best!

JAson - Time machine no longer says I don't have access (ie, I *do* have access), but it doesn't give me the option to restore anyway. :-(
