This answer was rated:

I'm using Word for Mac 2011 and when I save or print to pdf the document's hyperlinks don't act as hyperlinks in the pdf

Can you please upload the Word document to and give me the file ID? I'll take a look at it for you.

Thank you.

I created the PDF for you, you can get it here:

Does it work ok?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Its not downloading

Did you click the document link I gave you, and then the green download button?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Yes - nothing happens. Put it in separately, registered for the service, nothing.

Please go to

Click DOWNLOAD on the top, and provide this ID: 395858

Ah doesn't work in Chrome. Downloaded in Safari. Ok - so how can I do this - glad you got it to work but that doesn't help me get to work

That tells us the document is ok, and the links are functional - a good start!

Please check this for me:

Open Word (for me it's Word 2011) -> Select Preferences ->Output and Sharing -> Print -> Printing Options -> Check "Update links".

Save the document as PDF again - do the links work?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Ok - one link does work (yay!) but the links in the text box don't - but did for you... :-(

Yep - did some more research, and this is a well known problem with Word 2011 - the PDF links are quirky, and often don't work.

The solution - use this website:

You upload the Word file, and get a perfect, working links PDF file.

Hope this is a good solution!

Interesting. It did "work" though the fonts aren't the same. Well crap I could have ultimately found (and thanks for the update links tip). I will use that site and hope they (adobe or microsoft) fix this

It is actually an Apple problem - and from what I hear they are fixing it, but the solution is not out yet.

Glad I could help!

One last one - how is it that it worked for you and not for me?

Oh - I'm using Word 2013 for great on Windows...

There is another PDF conversion site that may do a better job with the fonts:

got it. going to have to ultimately get the company to move to pages :)

Well, you can use Openoffice right now. It is free, and convert to PDF works beautifully on that. Also very compatible with Word.
