Hello, my name is Dan.
I will do my best to help you, the only stupid question is the unasked one.

Your USB what?
What version of OS X is on the iMac?

How are you trying to do this? Have you been successful doing this in the past?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Well ifigured it out but now i cant eject it

Is it telling you that an application is using it? Or something to that effect?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

no the icon never even comes up so what i did is inserted my scan disk/usb then chose save as it showed it has no name choose that saved it , then to make sure it was on usb i went to finder and pulled up no name usb and it was there. the problem is that my icon for usb does not pop up when usb is inserted and i am afraid to pull it out with out prperly ejecting and corrupting it

That could happen. I am assuming that shows in a Finder side bar but not on the desk top, correct?
If so then you will see an Eject icon next to the No name USB.
Looks like this.

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

ok did it put it still doesnt really sole the problem of the icon not poping up when i put in the usb. so i cant save with out going through a back door of sorts.

That is an easy fix. Open Finder preferences.
Then under then General tab select what you want to see on the desk top.
In your case check the top three boxes. Close that window with the red dot and reinsert the USB drive, it will now appear on the desktop.
Let me know.
