How do I block use of spider solitaire. I use an iMac.

Viet - Computer Tech :

Hi, I will assist,

Viet - Computer Tech :

Do you mean blocking the website or add-ons?

Viet - Computer Tech :

Try blocksite add-on/extension:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/blocksite/

Customer:

I don't know what an "add-on" is. I mean the website called "cardsspidersolitaire.com"

Viet - Computer Tech :

download/install blocksite add-on/extension:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/blocksite/

Viet - Computer Tech :

then you can block any website you want in firefox

Viet - Computer Tech :

After installing Blocksite in Firefox, then go to preferences (or tools/options menu), then go to Add-ons, then go to Extensions, then click on Options at the Blocksite item, then you can add the cardsspidersolitaire.com website.

Viet - Computer Tech :

How is it going?

Customer:

I downloaded blocksite, but I am still able to access the spider solitaire site I asked it to block. Now what?

Viet - Mac Tech :

Sorry, that's strange. Do you have the latest Firefox version? Do you see Block site in Extensions in Add-ons?

Viet - Mac Tech :

Also, did you close/re-open Firefox?

Viet - Mac Tech :

Also, make sure you have written the website correctly.

Customer:

I closed and then reopened firefox. I can still bring it up. Not terribly sure I recorded the website correctly. It's http://www.cardgamespidersolitaire.com They show you an http://, and I added the rest.

Viet - Mac Tech :

You only need to add cardgamespidersolitaire.com

Viet - Mac Tech :

Also, in Blocksite, did you make sure the "Blacklist" radio button is ticked, as well as "Enable BlockSite," "Enable warning messages" and "Enable link removal."

Viet - Mac Tech :

Also, when you add a website in BlockSite, put the website cardgamespidersolitaire.com in the Location box (you do not need to put any description.)

Viet - Mac Tech :

Go back to Add-ons/Extensions, Blocksite to check

Viet - Mac Tech :

If it still does not work, another add-on you can try to block websites is FoxFilter
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/foxfilter/

Viet - Mac Tech :

It looks like you are away; I'm exiting the chat now, but you can always reply back to me via this web page to continue. Thank you,

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Still no success. Foxfilter isn't good for my purposes. I don't have a problem with porno or other inappropriate content....it's just the stupid www.cardgamespidersolitaire.com that I want to blot out of my life!

I'm sorry, it's really strange. Do you have the latest Firefox version? Can you remove the Firefox application, then redownload/reinstall it, then try blocksite again ( I tested blocking cardgamespidersolitaire.com on my firefox and it worked)?
http://www.firefox.com/

Thank you

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I did as you suggested: totally removed Firefox and then downloaded it again and added the add-on. Cardgamespidersolitaire.com is still going strong.

Sorry did you try to install both add-ons again and block? Thanks.
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Yes. I did. Nothing works. I have the feeling that there must be something I'm doing wrong though, so I don't want to give you a negative report. Can I just not say anything?

Are you having any problems with running that remote application after it is downloaded?

Which Internet browser are you currently using (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, or something of the like)?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Yes, I AM having trouble running the application. I use firefox.

Please, use Safari instead.

Thank you.
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

ok

Thank you.
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I think I should be good to go now. I just uploaded java, at the screen's recommendation. I'm on safari now.

Very good.

After you do that, you must click the link again and choose to Run the Elsinore application after it is downloaded. (It can be found in your downloads window).

If that does not work, please, try the other remote option below.

How do you define "newer"? My iMac is OSX 10.8.3. Is that newer or older?

That is newer.
