Hi, and welcome to JustAnswer! My name is XXXXX XXXXX X am excited to get started with you.So I can better assist you with your issue, I will need additional information. Does iphoto freeze every time you open it?
it imports photos and when i want to edit it freezes up
OK, thanks for the additional information. We are going to try a few troubleshooting fixes to resolve your issue. The first thing we are going to try is to reset iPhoto. This will not delete any of your photos. First quit iphoto and then open your finder window (Click on the happy face icon)
Then within finder, choose Go From the top menu bar
If iphoto is frozen now, you can force quit it first
Are you still with me?
Whenever you get back to the chat, reply to the chat and I will be notified.
Ok did you click on GO yet?
Did you close iphoto yet?
Ok now open your finder window (it is the smily face icon in the dock)
At the top menu bar (To the right of the apple logo) Choose Go
i dont understand
Do you see the apple logo in the upper left corner?
yes i am going to Go
When you choose Go, select "Go to folder" and paste this in ~/Library
Within the library folder, Click on the Preference folder. Within the preference folder, locate and delete com.apple.iPhoto.plist
ok just did
Ok now open iphoto again to see if it still freezes when you try to edit
Are photos still trying to import?
cannot close iPhoto
click on the apple logo at the upper left corner and choose force quit
Select iphoto from the list and choose force quit
earlier you mentioned that it imports photos. Whenever you open iphoto, does it try to finish importing photos?
Open finder again. In the left column you should see Pictures
Are there any import folders listed?
see only the folders i created
Press the control key while clicking on iphoto library. Choose Show package content
i donot see iphoto library
Click on GO again in the menu, choose home
Click on the picture folder from there. Do you see iphoto library now?
ok i now see the package content
Within Show package content, look for a folder titled "Importing" , "Import or Auto Import"
i donot see these folders
Do you see a folder named Attachments?
Right underneath it should be an Auto Import folder
Ok click on the auto import folder, are there any photos inside?
it is empty
Ok now carefully look again to see if you see and Importing or import folder
no i do not see these folders
Ok lets look for one more folder. Do you see a recovered folder?
Ok, lets go ahead and rebuild iphotos library. Before we do that, lets check for updates. Click on the apple logo on the upper left corner and choose software updates. What updates are listed
We don't need that right now. Ok lets start with repairing iphotos permission. If that does not work, we will then repair the entire database. To do this, Press and hold all Command+Option+shift Key while clicking on iPhoto. Continue to hold all three keys until you get a dialogue box
Choose the first option to repair permissions
while its repairing, can you open your pictures folder again
How many folders are listed there?
Is iphoto library still listed there?
If not, you may be in the wrong picture folder. Go back to your home folder and choose the picture folder from there
it is in the home directory
Yes, when you click on Go in the upper menu bar, click on Home. From the home folder, choose pictures
Ok within the picture folder, you should still see iPhoto library along with other folders. Do any of the folders say recovered photos or import?
Are the same14 folders listed?
Can you tell me which folders are listed?
Ok thanks for the info. Can you now go back to iphoto to check and see if it is doen
it still freezes
We have two more resolutions. If rebuilding does not fix, we will need to create another library. This one seems to be corrupt.Force quit iphoto again
Then press Command+Option+Shift while launching iPhoto. Choose Repair database
it completed repair database
Ok launch iphoto and let me know if it still freezes
Ok so we will need to create a new library. Roughly how many photos do you have?
OK this wont be so painful (I hope) basically, you will need to re-organize your albums when we create the new library
Force quit iphoto again. This time, press and hold the option key while opening iphoto. Choose create new and rename it iPhoto new
Ok now Click on Go from the finder menu again, Choose home and then choose pictures
Control click on iphoto again and choose show package contents
Scroll down to the bottom. You should see a masters or original folder
Ok, drag the masters folder in newly created blank iPhoto. You should then see your photos importing again
how do i see import of photos
Are the photos currently importing in iPhoto?
After dragging the folder in the new iPhoto library, you should see your photos importing
Ok open iphoto
That blank screen is what you need to drag the masters folder to
it is copying 27 gb
You have way more than 1,200 photos
about 10 min left
Also since you will technically have two libraries. After organizing your new library and confirming that everything is there, you can delete the corrupted iphoto library
How is it going so far?
ok it is completed
Great. Now close iphoto and re-open it to see if it freezes (Fingers crossed)
is it repairing the data base because of inconsistencies
Ok, when it is done, close and re-open it
How is the repairing process going? It should be almost done
I see you are offline right now. Your iphoto issue should be resolved after it is done rebuilding. If for some reason you are experiencing issues, respond to the chat and I will be notified. If not , You can now go ahead and rate my service and end the Chat. Enjoy the rest of your day
Sorry i had to go
It looks lil i still have the same problem
Thats very strange. We already created a new library
Are you sure you are opening the new library
i notice that i have over 2000 pics and not 1200 as i told you earlier
Force quit iphoto again and open the finder menu
yes i deleted the other one and am working with a new library
Does it do the same exact thing?
As far as pop up with an importing prompt
Sorry but i have to leave again
talk to u later
Ok, talk to you later
I am sure we will resolve your issue when you return
Let me know when you are ready to continue

Can you open the app store and search for iphoto
Click on the magnifying glass in the upper right corner and type in app store

i do not see it
Do you see the Cache folder?

Within Caches you will see com.apple.iPhoto

there are several with- crash.plist

Yes. delete all of them that contain iLifePhotoStream
Ok now open iphoto again and try to sign into photo stream
still not working
I have to leave
Ok, we will continue this later. I will do further research on your issue and post it into this chat.
When you return, try this. It sounds like the issue is related to a photo in your photo stream. Turn off photo stream on all of your devices. Make sure the photos are on your computer because they will erase from photo stream. On you iphone/iPad, Go to settings>iCloud. click on Photo steam and turn both "My photo Stream and Shared photo Stream" Off. Do the same on your computer by clicking on the apple logo in the upper left corner, choose system preferences and then choose iCloud. Uncheck photo stream to turn it off
Hello, were you able to try the instructions above?
i am back and executed your instructoins
Is photostream still turned off on all of your devices?
Ok can you open iphoto now and activate photo stream only in iphoto
i did but it freezes
Next, I will have you create a test account on your computer, log into that account and try to log into photostream on that account
Click on the apple logo in the upper left corner and choose system preferences then choose account
where do i find account
Under system, you will see user and groups
In the left column, is Group listed?
i created the account
Ok, log into that account and try to sign into photo stream in iphoto. Let me know if it freezes
do i have to restart the computer
No, to make it easier, within user and groups, click on log in options and check show fast user switching menu
Choose Full name. You will then see account names in the upper right corner. Click on it and choose the newly created account
Now switch to that account, try to activate photostream. Take note if it freezes. Then click on the upper right corner and choose your account to switch back
it switches back to the other account
did you choose the newly created account
What happened when you choose the new account?
when i want to lock it goes back to the other account
Im confused. In the upper right corner you should see your account name. When you click on it and choose the newly created account, it should be a blank account
i will be back later
Can you give me a estimated time
looks like it is finally working
Did it work fine in the test account?
yes , i then switched back and iPhoto in working!!!!!
Ok that is great news. Ok go ahead and delete the test account
thanks you are great!
You are very welcome. I really appreciate your patience, I know this was not easy and took a really long time to resolve.
the end result matters
