What is happening when you are trying to open Outlook normally ? Do you getting any error messages ? If so let me know the exact error message.

If rebuilding do not works or rebuilding itself is failing your identity may baly corrupted. In such a case you need to create a new identity and copy the old identity data to the new one. You can try the steps in this article. hope, it will help.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

no error messages displayed when I try to open Outlook. just does not open and say I need to rebuild the identity and opens the rebuilding utility.

I will try to follow your advice but it seems quite similar to what I was trying to do

Expert:  Jins M. N. replied 1 year ago.
Hi Allessandra, thanks a lot for the immediate reply. Actually the rebuilding process and the method I suggested are two different things. Please do the things exactly as on that tutorial and let me know the result.

hi there, it partially worked. Outlook has opened and contacts and calendar are fine. Mails are downloading again so it will take some time, I suppose

Can I delete the old Main identity now - should I rename the new one?

my machine is an air book - don't have space for more than one identity

Expert:  Jins M. N. replied 1 year ago.
Hi Allessandra, Happy to hear it worked. Sure, you can delete the old identity to save the space. First, move it to an external disk. After confirming every thing is perfect you can delete it.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

ok, but do I need to rename the new identity as "main identity"?

Expert:  Jins M. N. replied 1 year ago.

Sorry I don't get it: I can or cant? would you advice me to do so after I delete the old Main identity?

Expert:  Jins M. N. replied 1 year ago.
Sorry for the typo. You can rename it. Hold down the Option key when launching Outlook. This brings up the Database Utility
Select your new identity. You can rename it from there also.
Select “Set as Default”

Hello, since I rebuilt my identity using your suggestions the outlook calendar won't sync with my iphone and Ical. what shoudl I do?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Hello can you reply to me, pls. The new identity has crushed twice (head to run rebuild identity database) and does not sync with my iPhone and iCal. pls help

Expert:  Jins M. N. replied 1 year ago.

If you just use Outlook and leave ical closed, then it syncs correctly between the two. You need to close outlook when plugging the iphone in, as it only syncs with ical and address book.

This will removed most corruptions and syncing issues. If it not helps, export your calendar to an external device, ie. iphone or ical export.

Wipe both the ical and outlook calendars, reload ical with the calendar data.

Then enable sync services in outlook, restart your machine and ical will sync to outlook.

Jins

Hi Alessandra, Please remove any unwanted mails from the outlook folders. Big in size mail database have more chances to crash.

If Outlook is still crashing you should perform some more fixes.

Remove Outlook Preferences

This step will determine whether the problem is caused by damaged Outlook preferences. To move preferences to the desktop, follow these steps:
  1. Quit all applications.
  2. On the Go menu, click Home.
  3. Open Library.
Note The Library folder is hidden in MAC OS X Lion. To display this folder, hold down the OPTION key while you click the Go menu.

  4. Open Preferences, and then drag the following files to the desktop:
    • com.microsoft.Outlook.plist
    • com.microsoft.outlook.database_daemon.plist
    • com.microsoft.outlook.database_utility.plist
    • com.microsoft.outlook.office_reminders.plist
    • com.microsoft.Outlook.SyncServicesPreferences.plist
Note: If you cannot find one of these files, continue to the next. Some of these files may not have been created if an Outlook feature was not used.
  5. Open Outlook. Does the problem occur?

No, the error no longer occurs.
One of the files that you moved is causing the problem. To isolate the file, follow these steps:
    1. Quit Outlook.
    2. Move one of the files back to its original location.
    3. Open Outlook.

If the error reoccurs, the file that you just moved is causing the problem. Drag this file to the Trash.

If the error does not occur, continue repeating steps A to C until you isolate the file.

    Yes, the error still occurs.
Quit Outlook, and move the files back to their original location. Go to the next step.
  6. Quit all applications.
  7. On the Go menu, click Home.
  8. Open Library.
Note The Library folder is hidden in MAC OS X Lion. To display this folder, hold down the OPTION key while you click the Go menu.
  9. Open Preferences.
Note If you have Service Pack 2 installed, open Application Support instead of Preferences.
  10. Open Microsoft, and then open Office 2011. Drag the following files to the desktop:
    • Outlook Preferences
    • OfficeSync Prefs
Note: If you cannot find one of these files, continue to the next. Some of these files may not have been created if an Outlook feature was not used.

Go to next step: Clean startup or safe mode

Clean Startup or safe mode

For information how to clean start your operating system (OS) Check this MS KB article Perform a clean startup (safe mode) to determine whether background programs are interfering with Office for Mac

Okay, Close Outlook. In Finder, press the option key, then GO (upper menu) - LIBRARY - PREFERENCES. Then find and delete this file:

com.microsoft.Outlook.SyncServicesPreferences.plist

Open Outlook and go to sync services again.

Select address book. I think others are the folders created by rebuilding process.

Will it work and sync the calendar? And what should I do about these weird folders? Keep them?
Expert:  Jins M. N. replied 1 year ago.
Yes, it will sync. Forget those recovered folders, you need not do anything with it. Please check this MS KB article to know more about calendar sync.
