my iphoto video is coming into imovie sideways. how can i fix this? these are video clips that i filmed with my iphone and put into my iphoto.  they all play correctly but when imported to imovie they come in sideway.  how to correct?  thanks

Hey! Welcome to JustAnswer! I'll be happy to help you with this.

The problem here is that the clip originally was recorded rotated sideways. When the iPhone plays it back, it knows to rotate it so that the video matches the way it appeared when you recorded it, but iMovie doesn't know to do that.

So, what you want to do is rotate the video in iMovie. To do this, select the video clip in your iMovie project, then click the Crop button (or press C). Among the things that pop up will be two arrows pointing left and right. Click one of those until it rotates the video to the view you want.

Thanks! If this answer is acceptable, please remember to click 'Accept' or give positive feedback when prompted. If you need further assistance before this is deemed acceptable, please don't hesitate to ask for more detail. Thanks again!

Tried your suggestion and after highlighting the clip i went to the "Edit" but the "crop" command is gray - not black. My imovie is 6.0HD. What should i try next?

Hmm, that's strange. Just to confirm that we're talking about the same thing, you're talking about the Crop button on the toolbar, correct? As shown here: http://i.imgur.com/nSm6c.png

The crop command is in the pull down menus of imovie. there is no crop tool like the one you noted "i.imgur.com/nsm6c.png.

You can't rotate your movie clip directly on imovie6. But you can rotate a clip in imovie 6 with the help of a thirdparty plugin. Please go to http://www.geethree.com/slick/free.html
and download the free sampler.

Install it and open imovie. Then click on the editing tab.

Now click on the Video FX tab and you will see Gee Three Sampler, open the tab and select Rotate Clip.

You need to click on configure to make the effect work.

If it not helps, you can do it by using TransformMovie, available at : http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21859

Jins, I tried the Slick plug-in and it does not help. i then tried the transform movie but it requires a BUY. Ideas? I am satisfied with your ideas except they do not work.Smile

So there is no answer to resolve this issue? It has been 2 days.
Hello Sir, sorry for the delay in reply. Please try with QuickTime Player.

Any file that can be opened in QuickTime can be rotated by choosing Edit > Rotate Left (or Right) or by typing Command-Shift-L / R.

If you alter a movie file in this way and attempt to close the file (Command-W) you will be prompted to save your changes. Save them to a new file and you will have a newly rotated video.

If it not helps, please try the freeware app Transform movie. Click here to download Transform Movie.

You can try this soluton also.

Regards

Jins

it is in quick time player and it cannot be rotated. when i opened quick time under the edit tab there is no "rotate" there" transform movie does not help either. Next?

Okay Sir, Then we should try other tricks. There is a free plugin called Turn Clip. Please download it from http://www.imovieplugins.com/plugs/turnclip.html I believe it works with iMovie HD 6.

There is another freeware program named MPEG Stream clip. Please click here and download the version compatible for your OS. Then try to rotate your video with it.
