Hi what version of itunes and mac osx are you using?
have you tried the normal import button and checked import settings are set , please toggle them from aac to mp3 and try again .
make sure the cd is clean .
does the cd play in itunes otherwise ok ?
I tryed on previous version of iTunes 10, and today i downloaded the newest iTunes 11 with the same results, I'm using mountain lion, I have iMac just 6 months old.
hi ok .
I just changed from aac to mp3 no positive results
i'm going to check
can you swap the setting back to aac .
does the cd play in itunes otherwise ok ? yes no ?
i take it the mac hd has plenty of space remaining ?
the cd plays normally and i can import from cd to library
I'm using the external hard drive as iTunes storage 3TB it's more than enough space
i Changed back to aac
so importing from cd works ok .
yes no problem with that
and shows in the library .
ok what file /s are not importing ?
perhaps permission issue .
or incompatible file format .
or missing tags .
such as filename.tag , filename.mp3 etc
import from cd shows in library. It's not importing from mp3, i can check permissiopns
give me detail on one single file that wont import ?
so dragging an mp3 that resides on your mac desktop . does not copy to the itunes folder . drag a file to the top left hand corner and drop once become blue .
sorry it's aac, 44,100 khz, bit rate 337 kbps
aac ok . is compatible , from where was it downloaded ? etc , does it have DRM on the file?
no it does not help, i tryed with mp3 nothing happens
drag a file to the top left hand corner "of itunes window " and drop once it becomes blue highlighted .
is the file on the mac desktop?
to begin with ?
can you try in the finder , copy the file to the external hds music / itunes folder
nothing happens with draging , the file is on main Hard drive
can you read write the external hd . using finder ?
i'm using path finder
just in case there is some clash , can you quit path finder and use finder with itunes , quit both , and re launch itunes with finder loaded also .
keep path finder quit .
ok i'll try
can you read write the ext HD in finder or path finder . also .
Is the ext HD mac format ?
you can use get info on its icon for info .
yes it's formated to mac
are the files you mention in get info , showing tags .aac or .mp3
i can read & write the file
mac format extended journaled . NON CASE SENSITIVE>
can you run a HD test on the ext hd .
do you know disk utility ?
sucsess it imports from finder!
also perform permissions repair for mac HD boot drive .
ok . so path finder is making an issue ? or at least if finder not loaded . ?
was your setting for path finder , to opt finder quit on load etc or both run ?
it seems so

yes it was
ok you can try , with both loaded . and test again .
itunes may use the finder for its import task .
from path finder?
load both path finder and keep finder open also .
theres an option to keep finder loaded.
i.e not quit.
i didint have any problem with this untill today i've been using path finder for years
try that , it may work , if not , youl have to quit path finder and make sure finder is open while importing.
check your read write access to the ext hd using get info , check your user is added .
also check both music and itunes folders etc on the ext hd .
i dont know why the clash prevents .
but it seems the fault .
i tried but still does not want to import from path finder
the finder was open and i changed the settings in path finder preferences
ok , then theres an issue with path finder .
so with path finder quit , itunes then works?
what can i do?
you can contact or report the issue to path finder support .
from finder there's no problem with importing
for importing theres no real hardship in reverting to finder for that job .
was path finder updated recently ?
perhaps it coincided .
i have opened both know finder & path finder
does path finder read right the ext hd in path finder ?
i'm going to check it
try get info on the ext hd set permissions for ext hd to - ignor ownership on this volume .
any change in problem?
but i have this problem with both external hd and main hd on my iMac HD 1
does path finder report any issues in console while importing ?
are you a paid product with path finder , id hit up there tech support .
now i got the message that new version of path finder is ready to download
must be from last update.
id install that update .
perhaps a fix there .
yes it's legal i paid for that i can try to contact with path finder support
