I just switched to the Lion operating system on my iMac, and am having a great deal of trouble. I can't sync my Blackberry anymore, and the system just erased all my contacts in my address book; they are in my iPad, but I cannot get them back to the computer. Can I switch back to Snow Leopard, which I liked a lot better? Do I have to buy it again, or is it still stored on my computer someplace?
Optional Information: Computer OS: Mac OS X Browser: Safari Already Tried: I tried looking for Snow Leopard on my computer, but did not find it.
Hello and thank you for asking your question, with JustAnswer.com/Mac. I am Sr. Mac Tech Support Specialist, Terry, glad to assist you.
When you upgraded to Lion, Snow Leopard as an operating system, has been overwritten
which means you would have to erase Lion in order to reinstall Snow Leopard
what model of iMac are you using if I may ask?
24 inch mid 2007
Do you have an external hard drive you can use to back up data from your current Lion system?
because if you do, you could actually remove Lion and go back to Snow Leopard
Yes I do. Do I have to move everything over to the external hard drive? What is the best way to do that?
Is an alternative just to buy Snow Leopard again and install it?
Before I continue,
As a professional Mac technician, I like to take more of a personable, personal approach, toward helping any valued JustAnswer.com customers, I am fortunate to assist.
On that note, may I start by asking your first name?
Also as you are providing that information to me
you can indeed buy Snow Leopard again
for only $29.00 USD
Hi; my name is XXXX. XXX if I buy it and install it, it will just erase Lion and I will be back to where I started, isn't that correct?
Thanks Alan, glad to be of service
You would actually have to erase the Lion OS using the built in Disk Utility feature
and then install Snow Leopard from the installation disc you will have purchased from Apple
I also have a software called SuperDuper!
which allows you to use its simple interface to back up the data you want from your current system to an external hard drive, before you erase Lion
