Welcome ,I will give a full and clear answer to your question, please make sure to reply to any questions I have. They may be essential to my reply.
Are you saying you have a photo on iphoto , and want the photo on the iphone photo library ?
i.e iphoto on the Mac - copy it to the phone .
I have photos on my iphone, and want to copy them to iphoto on my mac
Sorry I didn't answer sooner
ok connect the iphone to the mac via usb .
use the port on the mac , rather than the keyboard etc .
I did do that, from the beginning. iTunes recognizes my phone.
then launch itunes
if itunes sees the phone , you can click on the phone in the device list
Okay - it's still launched and connected, actually.
and see the photos sync settings from the screen center options
i see the sync settings available -- but photos .... ?
no mention of photo sync
photos to the right of books,
Please also , try opening iphoto .
It should find the iphone .
oops! Yes -- i see it and clicked on it
Once you sync to the itunes , it should also update iphoto.
or open iphoto .
it's backing up the iphone now
ok well done.
and waiting and waiting -- but it's progressing
ok - sync complete
di it work?
did typo .
if by work, you mean ... did the iphone show up on iphoto under "devices"?
the answer is no, it still ignores the iphone
if you launch iphoto , does iphoto see the phone see device list
click on iphoto in the device list
see options to import ..
also please try taking one more photo on the phone , and then repeat the above..
if the problems remains , please try trashing the iphoto.plist .
Quit all apps .
Please Trash the plist file , " com.apple.iPhoto.plist " .Found in the Mac HD / Users / Youruser / Library / Preferences / com.apple.iPhoto.plistReboot and then launch iPhoto and test .If your using Lion , Use Finder Go menu , Got to folder - to get to the folder . Paste : ~/Library/Preferences/ , hit Enter .
well - my iphone is listed as a device nowhere except in itunes
and sync options in itunes for pictures is on etc . ?
i went to import and it imported all the same photos, so i just took another pic
What is the iphoto.plist ?
what is the iphoto.plist
in itunes photos sync options , sync Photos top most option on , & using .. iPhoto .
a plist is a preference file .
iPhoto may have a problem with the plist .
when you trash a plist , after launching the app , the plist is remade new .
it will prove the plist is renewed and thus working .
is your iphone iOS updated also ?
See itunes , iphoto main settings , update .
have you had any other problems with your mac??
do you have good space free on the mac HD?
i have lots of space
problems - like everyone else, cloud backup often does not work
I would like you to make a safe boot ,
You can book mark this webpage to return after the safe boot . A safe boot can help fix any Mac HD errors,Turn off the Mac .Power on the Mac .Hold shift on the keyboard using a "USB keyboard or for laptops use the built in keyboard , while powering on the Mac just after the chime and starting up keep holding the Shift key , this should boot to safe mode.Once booted to safe mode , restart and boot as normal .Full details here :-http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455

you can see the apple id used on the phone , settings icloud , and store .
if already logged in , please log out and in again on both mac and phone.

but i still have no idea what the plist is or where to find it -
unless - wait - is that playlist?
plist is found using the finder .
