Daniel :

Thanks for choosing Justanswer, My name is XXX XXX I will be assisting you today.

Daniel :

What is going on when you try to discard them, are you receiving an error, or what is happening?

Customer :

The documents do not move from their place, they remain there. Before I remembering dragging them directly and

Customer :

the document would dissapear from the Word files. Not so today.

Daniel :

Try dragging them to the desktop and then to the trash and see if that works

Daniel :

Like see if the file moves when you drag it to the desktop and then if you can get it on the desktop, try to drag it to the trash and see if that works. Let me know if it does

Customer :

ok, I'll do it

Daniel :

ok

Daniel :

You may also need to reboot the Mac it may just being have a brain fart or something and needs to be rebooted

Customer :

the document still remains in Word, I could drag the document well but the doc is still in Word.

Customer :

how do I reboot it?

Daniel :

Select Restart from the Apple menu. Then click "Restart" when the dialog box appears.

Daniel :

Then once you reboot you will want to check and see if the files are still if they are try again to drag the files to the trash

Customer :

oh, thanks excuse my ignorance, I

Customer :

ll do it

Daniel :

No problem

Customer :

It did'nt work, the docs remain in their place.

Daniel :

Did you try to drag it again

Daniel :

give me just a moment here

Customer :

I did.

Daniel :

okay, I was just making sure. Alright try to control click and select move to trash

Customer :

nop! it doesn't work.

Daniel :

Try this:

1. Reboot the computer.

2. Open 'Terminal'

3. Type: sudo rm -frv ~/.Trash

Note: This removes the old ".Trash" directory and all files and folders in it.

4. Type: mkdir -v ~/.Trash

Note: This creates a new ".Trash" directory in your home folder.

5. Type: killall Finder

Note: This kills/restarts Finder

6. Close Terminal.

7. Reboot Computer.

See if the trash works now.

Customer :

I'll do my best

Daniel :

Sounds good, that's all one can do is their best

Customer :

I can't find "terminal" I looked all over and don't see it.

Daniel :
Go to application folder>Utilities>Terminal
Customer :

Remember Daniel, that the problem is not much with the trash but with Word because the document remains

Customer :

in Word and the other goes to trash.

Daniel :

Yes, I understand that but just try this and let me know.

Daniel :

It actually is associated with the trash and those word files.

Daniel :

When I said see if the trash works, I just meant see if you can delete those word files

Customer :

I didn't work, the files in word remain, sorry.

Daniel :

Are you still able to open those files?

Customer :

yes, and some of them I already erased them and they are in blank but the document with the

Customer :

name is XXXXX XX word.

Daniel :

I am going to opt out and see if there is another expert that can figure this out I am out of ideas here. Just wait for another expert, there is no need to reply to me because then the question will be locked to me.

Hello, my name is XXXXX XXXXX X look forward to assisting you today with your question and providing the best answer possible.

First I need some information and I also want you to check some things that may or may not be affecting the situation :

Please go to the Apple logo on the upper left of the screen, go to About This Mac (DO NOT Select More Info), and tell me the Version (under Mac OS X), the Processor and the Memory, it is all right there.

Click on the first icon in the Dock the "Finder", then click on Go at the top of the screen, you will see a drop down menu, go to Utilities. When that opens double click on the application called Disk Utility. When Disk Utility opens you will see your hard drive (usually Macintosh HD) on the left. Highlight your hard drive and click on Verify Disk on the far right. If that is OK in green type, then click on Repair Permissions on the left.

Note: If Verify Disk is not OK try to Repair. If Repair is successful then Repair Permissions if it is not successful let me know.

Customer replied 289 days and 1 hours ago.

This Mac is 10.5.8
Processor 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 2GB 1067 MHZ DDR3

The icon Finder does not give me a menu with "Utilities", Utilities is on my recent items can I click there?

Picture
Expert:  Mike the MacMedic replied 289 days and 1 hours ago.

Yes or go to Macintosh HD / Applications / Utilitties.

Customer replied 289 days ago.

I found everything but I'm afraid to do a mass and not being able to fix it

Picture
Expert:  Mike the MacMedic replied 289 days ago.

Not sure what you mean by "mass" this is normal maintenance.

Customer replied 289 days ago.

ok, I'll try my best. I'm totally naive in this matter.

Customer replied 288 days and 23 hours ago.

I did everything, Verify Disk and Repair Permissions and all is fine.

Ok come back afterXXXXX Thank you for your understanding..

Customer replied 288 days and 10 hours ago.

Good morning,

Last night I tried to delete some documents and worked perfectly,

this morning though, remains the same :(

Picture
Expert:  Mike the MacMedic replied 288 days and 9 hours ago.

Where are these files located?

Customer replied 288 days and 9 hours ago.

in Word

Picture
Expert:  Mike the MacMedic replied 288 days and 9 hours ago.

Word is an Application not a location what folder are they in Documents, on the Desktop, etc...?

Customer replied 288 days and 9 hours ago.

No, I'm talking about my documents that I have in Word. Some I don't want and have drag them (like I have done before in other apple computers) and they do not dissapear from the files in Word.

Picture
Expert:  Mike the MacMedic replied 288 days and 9 hours ago.

I'm sorry but there is no such thing as "in Word", Word is an application that creates and edits "Word" documents, you can save Word documents but they have to be saved somewhere before you can "trash" them. Where are these Word documents saved? Where are you dragging them from, can you describe it more clearly?

Customer replied 288 days and 9 hours ago.

When I write a document in Word I save it in documents and there is where they are.

Picture
Expert:  Mike the MacMedic replied 288 days and 9 hours ago.

OK go to Macintosh HD / Users / yourusername / Documents what happens when you drag a file to the trash?

Customer replied 288 days and 9 hours ago.

the file would remain in HD while a copy (I think goes to the trash

Picture
Expert:  Mike the MacMedic replied 288 days and 8 hours ago.

Right click or hold Control and left click on it and go to Move to Trash.

Customer replied 283 days and 1 hours ago.

Sorry but nothing worked. I couldn't fix the problem. :(

Picture
Expert:  Mike the MacMedic replied 283 days and 1 hours ago.

I suggest you reinstall your system:

Put the current operating system disk (the one that came with your Mac unless you have upgraded) in and restart holding down the letter C key until you see the Apple logo. When you get to the install screen DO NOT INSTALL, you will see at the top of the screen a Utilities menu drop down. Go the Disk Utility, when it opens select your drive on the left and select Verify Disk if OK also repair Permissions. If not OK try to Repair if Repair completes then Repair Permissions. Then quit Disk Utility and then you will see the install screen . Install choosing the option to Archive and Install if you don't have that option just install. Restart and run Software Update until no more updates are available.

Any luck?

Customer replied 282 days and 7 hours ago.

sorry but I don't think I will be able to do this by myself, it's too complicated and I have no experience on this and I'm afraid to do something wrong and to tell the truth this computer works very well and I'll be concern in making a big mistake.

Picture
Expert:  Mike the MacMedic replied 282 days and 7 hours ago.

I thought you said:

I couldn't fix the problem. :(

Customer replied 282 days and 6 hours ago.

I tried to follow your instructions but nothing worked.

Picture
Expert:  Mike the MacMedic replied 282 days and 6 hours ago.

Customer replied 282 days and 2 hours ago.

I have another question.

Picture
Expert:  Mike the MacMedic replied 282 days and 2 hours ago.

Yes?

Customer replied 282 days and 1 hours ago.

I have another Apple computer the past style of this one (all white) I don't know the version. I lent it to someone but there are personal documents that I want to ? (export/import?) to my USB. To transport pictures takes the same procedure as when you transport documents? you just drag the picture from the files to the USB?

Picture
Expert:  Mike the MacMedic replied 282 days and 1 hours ago.

Yes unless they are in iPhoto in that case you would have to export them first.

Customer replied 282 days and 1 hours ago.

they are in I Photo. Can you please give steps how to do that?

Picture
Expert:  Mike the MacMedic replied 282 days and 1 hours ago.

Open iPhoto and select your pictures then go to File Export and choose File Export tab and choose Original and choose your location:

Customer replied 282 days and 1 hours ago.

Now, I know I have to pay Justanswer . What do I do, pay you now or pay later when I do the homework I have? How does this work?

Picture
Expert:  Mike the MacMedic replied 282 days and 1 hours ago.

Customer replied 282 days and 1 hours ago.

Customer replied 276 days and 9 hours ago.

hello Mike, I'm back.

First, I send your instructions to my friend who knows about computers and she knows that I don't know much about them. She suggested not to do anything, to look for an expert to do it.

Second, I'm working on the other computer moving the documents and photos on the USB, my question is how do I delete the photos in the computer?

Customer replied 243 days and 3 hours ago.

Ok, I will.

I double click and the icon is on its place and still with the pictures.

Picture

OK so you see it in the Dock now right? Hold Control and click on the iPhoto icon in the Dock and go to Options / Keep in Dock. We have been all over the place, what is it you want to do exactly?

Customer replied 243 days and 3 hours ago.

Now it is in the Dock and in Applications.
