Having trouble getting my 3rd gen iPad to connect with my HP wireless printer. Nothing will print when asked. Printer is fine otherwise. Something I should be doing on iPad to connect?Edward xxxxx. Email=XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX. Thanks!
Optional Information: Product: iPad Software (if necessary): iOS
Hello my name isXXXXX look forward to assisting you today with your question and providing the best answer possible. What is the exact model of your printer, and are the iPad and the printer both on the same wireless network? Thanks
HP model# XXXXX Jet6500A. Product no. CN557A. On Netgear router system for both.
Thanks, XXXXX XXXXX need to try some different set of steps to get this working eventually, lets try this first:Turn off your wireless router by unplugging it from the wall outlet > Turn off the iPad, and turn off the wireless printer.Wait one minute, and then plug in the router, and turn on your iPad and printer again > Wait for about 5 minutes, then try to print again, then try to print again. If that doesn't work, please take these steps:
This'll take awhile to try.
No problem, please take your time and keep me posted - and if that doesn't do the trick let me know onc you have the config page from the printer and we'll go from there.Thank you,Bernie
It did not print. I have the config page now
, It did not print. I have the config page now? Waiting for you.
Ok thanks, XXXXX XXXXX these things:
---
Then on the iPad:
source: http://is.gd/tnxADS
The ip address for the printer is 169.254,178.130. For the iPad it says. 192.168 1.2Am I reading this right?, , It did not print. I have the config page now. Waiting for you.
Ah I see, it appears your HP printer is not on the network for some reason. The 169.254 address is what's called an APIPA address that is automatically assigned when a device cannot connect to the network. We want to see something like 192.168.1.x on the printer.Do you know the model of your router? Also, do you have the SSID (network name) and password XXXXX your wireless network on hand? Thanks
Netgear shows #N300 and WNR2000 but cannot tell if those are model numbers.
No problem that's exactly what I needed. Also, do you have the SSID (network name) and password XXXXX your wireless network on hand?
SSID name says only Netgear. Have no idea about the password. Got to go to lunch try to get in touch later. Thank you!!
No problem, please post back here when you're ready to continue and I'll try to get back asap, I'll have some new steps to install your printer on the network, thank you.To make sure you can return to me, please favorite or bookmark this page, or you can check your emails from me, in them will be a link to return to this page.
OK. So how do I change the ip address on my printer to agree with the iPad?
I see you're back, thanks for letting me know. Please give me 3-5 minutes and I'll hammer that out for us, in the meantime please get the network name and SSID from your netgear by using these steps:From a Negear connected computer click one of the links below: LINK1LINK2A login prompt should pop up, to login use admin as the username, and password or 1234 as the passwordOnce in, click Wireless Settings > On that page find and make note of your SSID number, then look for a key #1, passphrase, or preshared key box, it will show your wireless network password, once you have both of those let me know (no need to post them here just need to know when you have them, thanks).
Cannot log in using your advice. Not acceptable.
Sorry Bernie, but I'll have to go thru this another time. Thank you very much!! Ted Gibbons.
Ok, please post back when you're ready, if it's not logging you in it means the default login has been changed on the router. We can still try to get the username (SSID) or password XXXXX other methods. Please let me know once you're back and we'll fix this as soon as possible. We're pretty close once we have that info, all we have to do is put it in the printer and I can show you how to do that exactly.ThanksBernie K.41085.8337136921
How do I change the ip address on my HP printer so that it will jibe with the ip address in my Apple iPad 3rd generation. Apparently this needs to be accomplished on the HP so it will print from the iPad.
Optional Information: Computer OS: Mac OS Classic Already Tried: Everyone I contact wants $80. To $100 to do anything. Is that the final answer?
Hi Edward,You've had to step away a few times while we were working on this so I've just waited for your reply so we can finish this up. To be honest I'm not sure who is telling you they want $80 or $100, I haven't said anything is my final answer...sorry if thre was any confusion. We don't want the iPad ip address to match the printer, we are just trying to put your printer on your network so your iPad can connect to it. To do that we need your network settings. Please let me know:Who is your Internet Service Provider, and are you using Cable or DSL?Bernie K.41086.9262896643
Using Comcast cable
Ok thanks, XXXXX XXXXX you have any Windows computers in the home that are already connected to the wireless network? If so I'll show you a special program that can reveal the network name and password XXXXX them so we can put this in the printer. If not, that's fine, we'll just need to reset your router, then setup the username and password XXXXX it again, then setup the printer, please let me know.Bernie K.41087.6470330208
None. Only an old hard wired Dell on Windows xp.
Ok not a problem, here's what I'd like you to do:To make sure you can return to me and not anyone else or a new session, please favorite or bookmark this page, or you can check your emails from JustAnswer with my picture, in them will be a link to return to this exact page. Then, look under your Comcast modem and make note of the telephone # XXXXX gives you. You may need to call Comcast after using the steps below to just to re-activate your internet (9 times out of 10 you normally don't have to do this). When ready:While it is powered on, press the reset hole on the back of your router with a paper clip and hold it down for 30 seconds. Make sure it 'clicks' in when you press it, you'll hear or feel it even though the hole is very tiny.Wait 2 minutes, then unplug both the router and modem from power, and turn off your computer, once it's off:Look under the Comcast modem for a battery door, open that > Remove the battery for 30 seconds, then replace > IF there is no battery door just skip this step.Wait 30 seconds and plug the modem back into power, another 30 seconds and plug in the router, and another 30 to power up the computer. Now wait a few minutes and you should be able to use the internet again, (If not you can call Comcast and have them re-active the internet), then follow these steps:Click one of the links below: LINK1LINK2A login prompt should pop up, to login use admin as the username, and password or 1234 as the passwordOnce in, click Wireless Settings > On that page find and make note of your SSID number, then look for a key #1, passphrase, or preshared key box, it will show your wireless network password, once you have both of those let me know (no need to post them here just need to know when you have them, thanks).
I'm sorry, a correction to my last steps, everything is the same except when you log back into the router after resetting it, use these steps instead:From this connected computer click one of the links below: LINK1LINK2A login prompt should pop up, to login use admin as the username, and password or 1234 as the passwordOnce in, click Wireless Settings > In the SSID box type a name for your network > Pick WPA or WPA2 for the security type In the passphrase box make a password, at least 10 characters > Save or apply your settings. Make note of the SSID and new passphrase you made.Once that's been done, click below to see how to enter this information into your printer:Once you've done that the iPad and printer should be on the same network, try to print from the iPad now and see how that works:source: HP.comBernie K.41087.7018857292
Your instructions look great and I am anxious to try what you say, but I' an old guy with 91 years behind me so I am slow to do things and slow to comprehend. I am trying to save your page, and not sure how to bookmark or save the page properly for future viewing. I have to read how in an iPad book and in iPad Petes info. So I'll keep trying.. Thanks a lot. Back to you later!!
Thanks for the update Edward, please take your time there is no rush : )Here is a video on how to save webpages on your iPad, tap the link below:HOW TO BOOKMARK A WEBSITE ON THE IPAD
Working with Bernie, I tried all his recommendations and did get my HP printer to come up with a new ip address that agrees with my iPad. But it still will not print. One step that did not work was the go to linc1 and login etc. However although there are 11 sites under linc1, not 1 was a site to login.
I will open your question to all other experts again. They will see anything we have discussed so far and you will receive an email notificiation if another experts posts to this page. Please make sure not to rate any of my answers as this may prevent other experts from posting. Thank you for your patience.

I already have that app. Bothe iPad and printer are on the same network--Netgear.
what model is your HP printer?were you able to print from other devices such as your laptop or desktop computer?CompExpert41092.8306236458
Office Jet 6500A all in one E710a Product #CN557A
try to connect your printer to wired ethernet cable and not wireless.then try to use HP eprint app and test print
Wired Ethernet cable? You mean like Comcast hard wired system? I do have an old Dell hard wired in but not being used. Maybe I could use that line for the printer?
yes that what I mean, connect the printer and router directly with a ethernet cable.
I will try this but I'm out of time. Will continue 7/3or 7/6. Thank you much.
sure, have a good day :)
I am all set now and printing OK. But I cannot really say that your (Just Answer) directions did the job. The thing that got me straightened out was the help from HP eprintcenter. Their specific instructions have solved any problems. Your expertise did not really do the trick. Thank you for your help that did not work.
is all depends on you.remember I only get paid when you rate my service 3 stars or better. but if you feel that I didnt try my best or helpful enough to get your problem solved.then please email customer support and have them closed the question for you.anyhow, I do hope you have a safe and wonderful weekend.

Solving my problem did not come from your help, but from HPeprint. Sorry, but you did not do it. I hope there is no charge for that. Thank you anyway for your attention!
no problem, you're welcome
