My kids are having trouble with imessage on their phones. When my son receives a message from one of his contacts, the same message also shows up on my daughter's phone. What makes it confusing is that the same does not happen in reverse -- messages to my daughter do not show up on my son's phone. Only imessages sent to my son are showing up on both phones - regular text messages are not. We have had my son's phone re-set with a new SIM card but this does not seem to help. Can you think of any other solutions?
Optional Information: Product: iPhone Already Tried: We have tried to turn off group messaging in settings, replacing the SIM card and having AT&T assign a new identification number to the phone.
Hello and welcome to JustAnswer. I look forward to assisting you today with your question and providing the best answer possible.Thank you for the question. This is a strange issue. Do your son and daughter share the same Apple ID? If so, do they both have the same email registered under Settings -> Messages -> Receive At? If you look in the "Receive At" menu, you'll see an Apple ID, a phone #, and an email address. I'd check to see what duplicate values they each might have under this menu and make corrections as needed (ie - make sure they register their own email addresses and Apple ID's there if there are duplicates).Remember, if for any reason you are unsatisfied with my answer, we can continue the conversation until you’re satisfied and Accept my answer. So if they share the same apple ID and use the same itunes account they will appear as the same user in imessage?
You can share Apple ID's, but if they have the same email address listed under the "Receive At" -> Email setting, they'll get each others messages (or at least one person will). You can register separate email addresses by removing the duplicate email and using "Add Another Email...". Just make sure the email you add is accessible, because you'll need to verify it which requires logging in to the email account and clicking the verification link to prove the email belongs to the person who added it.Remember, if for any reason you are unsatisfied with my answer, we can continue the conversation until you’re satisfied and Accept my answer. The setting I am referring to is just under Settings -> Messages -> Receive At. So just go to Settings -> Messages, scroll down a bit, and you'll see the "Receive At" settings.Remember, if for any reason you are unsatisfied with my answer, we can continue the conversation until you’re satisfied and Accept my answer. I now see the Receive At section and as you guessed, both phones are tied to the same account. The kids each have individual emails, so it sounds like I need to have the phones tied to a separate account for their own individual email. Is that correct?
Yes, just remove the duplicate email from one of the phones so they have separate emails listed, and they should be all set.Remember, if for any reason you are unsatisfied with my answer, we can continue the conversation until you’re satisfied and Accept my answer.
