Hello, my name is Dan.

My home is close to Lake Ontario in New York State in the Eastern time zone, I am generally online between 10 AM and 11 PM Eastern standard Time.

If I do not respond right away to your reply, rest assured that I am not ignoring you, I am probably assisting other customers and/or doing research, I will be with you as soon as I can.

I will continue to work on your problem until it is either resolved or you give up.

The only stupid question is the one not asked. Some may seem silly but never stupid.

There is and these show how without additional hardware.

How to watch live TV on your Mac - YouTube

Get Live Tv on your Mac - YouTube

This is from Comcast themselves.

Comcast Begins Rolling Out 'AnyPlay' Live TV Streaming for iPad - Page 2 - MacRumors Forums

This requires additional hardware.

EyeTV 3 - Award-winning TV software for Mac, included with all Elgato TV products

All depends on how much you are willing to spend, what you will be happy with and how complicated you are willing to do.

As an example, I have Time Warner cable they have an app for the iPad that gives me a good cable channel lineup live from Time Warner.

All for no extra.

Does any of that help?

Customer replied379 days and 8 hours ago.

Thanks. I'm pursuing the suggestions. Comcast doesn't have Anyplay here. The other youtube ad may be a scam. What do you think?
My work has been interrupted because last night my keyboard stopped writing on the screen. It happened after I downloaded and tried to use better touch tool to make the magic mouse more useful. At first the mouse wouldn't connect, but now it does. I changed the batteries in th mouse and now it connects. The bluetooth program says that both the mouse and the apple wireless keyboard are connected. Preferences, keyboard says the keyboard battery level is 100%. When I click on setup bluetooth keyboard, it searches and replies that no keyboard is found.
I've trashed the better touch program. When I try to trash the better touch download, I'm told that it can't be done because the program is running. The force quit window, however, says that finder is the only program it knows it's running.
Can you or someone else help me with this. I won't be at the computer again until this evening, though I'll have the iPad with me.
Thanks you.

Restart the Mac, this quits everything.

Also you might want to look in System Preferences/Accounts in Login items, these open and run at sign in, Force quit will not see those.
If it isn't there then it is in Startup items in the Library.
WHich version of OS X do you have on the Mac?

On Lion the Library we want is hidden and there is a trick to unhide it.

Let me know what happens.

Customer replied379 days and 2 hours ago.

How do you totally shut down the computer? How do you get to the library? So it seems likely that the program I downloaded and fiddled with is causing the problem?

To shut down (turn completely off) select Shut Down from the Apple menu.

To make the Library visible follow these steps.

The Better Touch should have no effect on connecting to the modem or watching TV on the Mac.The

Thank you very much; I can now type after shutting the computer down and then restarting it. Great relief. I did unhide the library. Any reason not keep it visible?
Connecting the mac and the cable box as shown in the first youtube video seems like it would be a good solution. He says that two software programs are necessary: VLC and AV/C. It looks as if I can download VLC. In order to get AV/C, I followed the instructions to sign up as an apple developer and under firewire developer tools I downloaded firewiresdk. The READ ME that accompanies it does mention AV/C, but I can't see how to find the program.

VLC is open and free, it is based in France and so the MPG-2 codec is included free.

Long story.
I would leave it visible, you may need to poke around in it sometime.
VideoLAN - x264, the best H.264/AVC encoder

That may be what you want.

Customer replied378 days and 20 hours ago.

What about the AV/C program?

Which of the VLC programs should I download? 64 or 32 bit or 64/32 or power pc. Does the mactv pro program look legitimate?

Which of the VLC programs should I download? 64 bit or 32 bit or 64/32 or power pc? What about the MacTV Pro? Could it be legitimate?

Customer replied378 days and 5 hours ago.

Please be assured that I consider your help invaluable. If you can answer the last question, I'd appreciate it. But I could always invest a the dollars in that program and see for myself.

Customer replied378 days and 4 hours ago.

I tried to send a $60 bonus through pay pal. I only got a receipt for $2! Let me know If it won't get to you through pay pal. And I'm unsure if $60 is adequate. Let me know.

PPC (power pc) will not run on your Mac. Get the 64/32 version as your Mac runs native in 64 but will run 32 bit also.

As for the bonus there is a place to include that when you click Accept, the bonus came through, thank you very much.
I do think that the MacPro live TV would be the way to go, all in one package and if you are not happy they refund the money. Can't beat that.
