NickMacIT :

Hi and welcome to JustAnswer.com.

My name is Nick and I will assist you with your issues.

What error message or code do you get?

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

1418

NickMacIT :

thanks and the message

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

I don't remember other than "trouble restoring the iPod" clicking on additional information told me error 1418

NickMacIT :

thanks

NickMacIT :

so you want to restore your ipod?

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

yes please, it wouldn't sync, so I had to restore it, then it wouldn't restore, but the music has been wiped. so it is currently empty

NickMacIT :

please click iTunes and go to Preferences

NickMacIT :

go to devices and select Reset sync history.

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

there is no reset sync history under my devices...

NickMacIT :

you went to Preferences?

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

yup. then to devices it is all faded gray. the only thing i can do it two options: prevent devices from syncing automatically, or allow use of remotes

NickMacIT :

have you restart your computer?

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

yeah, then i tried again and it didn't work, so I came here. But i have not tried to restart a second time.

NickMacIT :

wait

NickMacIT :

give me a second to pull out the fix steps

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

k, also since i last tried it does not even recognized my iPod is plugged in, but the iPod still wants me to eject it I dont know how

NickMacIT :

it does not recognized your ipod?

NickMacIT :

do you hear any sound when you plug in your ipod?

NickMacIT :

Please go to applications ->utilities->Disk Utility

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

no, but my external speakers dont work so i wouldnt. it recognized it when i plugged it in, but after it told me the error message and sent me to troubleshooting it went away

NickMacIT :

your ipod is classic nano or touch?

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

classic. the 160gb

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

that tells me to select a disc or volume

NickMacIT :

please reset your ipod by Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds

NickMacIT :

while it is plugged in

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

done

NickMacIT :

is it restarting?

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

NickMacIT :

NickMacIT :

NickMacIT :
  1. Disconnect all iOS devices from your computer and quit iTunes.
  2. From the Finder, choose Go > Go to folder.
  3. Type the following and then press Return:
    /var/db/lockdown
  4. The Finder window should display one or more files with long alphanumeric file names.
  5. In the Finder, choose Edit > Select all. Then, choose File > Move to Trash. Enter an administrator password if prompted.
Note: Do not delete the Lockdown folder itself. Delete only the files contained inside the Lockdown folder.
  6. Reconnect your iOS device and open iTunes.
NickMacIT :

Please try these steps

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

there is nothing in lockdown

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

can I get your name please?

NickMacIT :

I will step out for an hour.

NickMacIT :

Just let me know if you could do it or still get error.

NickMacIT :

I will check back with you

NickMacIT :

Or you can try this solution I just found:

Step 1: Run Terminal from Application > Utilities.

Step 2: Type the following command "privateo/etc" in the Open text box. Find the "hosts" file in the directoty and open it with text editor.

Step 3: Find the lines with gs.apple.com entries in the opened "hosts" file. Then enter # at start of the line or simply delete the lines.

Step 4: Save the "hosts" under the same directory. Then you can restore your devices.

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

nope. no success with the other user

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

i cant run terminal, it is nothing just opens up to nonsense and dont know how to do anythinpast step one

JACUSTOMER-2gmmc053- :

if i don't put this away to deal with later i will throw my computer against a wall and i know that is bad for it. I am going to get some sleep, and will try plugging my ipod into another computer and hopefully the reformatting it is forced to do that way will work and I can try again in my computer

NickMacIT :

Thanks so much. I will see you tomorrow.
