Toby K. :

Sign in > Preferences > Mobile Access > Enabled.

Toby K. :

Toby K. :

i want you to check to see if mobile access is enabled

Customer:

There is no option in my user preferences to enable mobile access

Toby K. :

ok, one moment

Customer:

k

Toby K. :

is your phone still on the screen where it says it may not be able to receive or send messages

Toby K. :

if so, does it allow you continue

Customer:

nope, i hit ok and now it's back to the settings screen showing a Shaw mail account under accounts. I shouldn't of hit ok, sorry!

Toby K. :

no, thats good

Toby K. :

can you see if it working though

Customer:

how do i see if it's working?

Toby K. :

try sending yourself an email using that account

Customer:

k hang on another sec ;)

Toby K. :

i just reread what you wrote earlier and that happens quite often...and it usually is not an error at all

Customer:

k i just sent myself an email from the computer and it did show up on my phone yay! But I just tried to reply and it says

Customer:

that the username or password XXXXX XXXXX

Customer:

that it cannot send mail. and I haven't hit ok

Toby K. :

go to your outgoing server settings under the mail account

Customer:

k

Toby K. :

its going to be under Advanced

Customer:

i,m there

Customer:

k

Toby K. :

what do you see you for outgoing server

Toby K. :

outgoing settings i mean

Customer:

under advanced there are no outgoing settings, just incoming

Customer:

but under just the account the outgoing is mail.shaw.ca

Toby K. :

ok

Toby K. :

is there a password XXXXX?

Toby K. :

is ssl turned off?

Customer:

not for outgoing, only for incoming

Customer:

don't see ssl, it says smtp

Customer:

yes ssl is off under advanced

Customer:

should I turn it on?

Toby K. :

no, it should be off

Customer:

but that's under incoming when I tap the red advanced button

Customer:

k

Toby K. :

your incoming works...so thats good

Toby K. :

um, lets delete this email account and try configuring it again

Customer:

seems to

Customer:

ok

Customer:

so just hit the red delete account button?

Toby K. :

yeah

Customer:

k done

Customer:

so want me to scroll up and do the steps you sent me again?

Toby K. :

yeah

Customer:

k give me a sec again

Toby K. :

k

Customer:

it's verifying

Toby K. :

ok

Toby K. :

who is your carrier for iphone?

Customer:

says cannot send mail, the user name or password XXXXX mail.shaw.ca is incorrect

Customer:

virgin mobile

Customer:

i have not hit ok

Toby K. :

and you are using the same info as the incoming server, correct?

Customer:

should I put the user name in with the shaw.ca at the end?

Toby K. :

you can try it

Customer:

for outgoing

Toby K. :

but you shouldnt have to

Customer:

k give me a sec

Customer:

k done.

Customer:

all the emails showed up again including the test one i sent earlier

Customer:

I'll try to reply to it

Toby K. :

ok

Customer:

crap, same message that I can't send due to user name or password

Toby K. :

ok, let me check something

Customer:

k

Toby K. :

in the meantime, can you try turning ssl on

Toby K. :

and change the port to 465

Customer:

k

Toby K. :

and type in the user and pass like normal, without the @shaw.ca

Customer:

should i change the user name back to without the @shaw.ca under outgoing?

Customer:

k

Toby K. :

yeah

Toby K. :

also, in your shaw webmail, do you see anything about mobile access?

Toby K. :

under properties or something

Customer:

I'll check again

Customer:

nope. there are no properties, just settings and that only has date and time and timezone options

Toby K. :

k

Customer:

then other settings for mail options for forwarding, junk mail filters etc. nothing for mobile

Customer:

Is this a usual issue with shaw email accounts?

Toby K. :

which network are you one...the wireless network or virgin mobile?

Toby K. :

*are you on

Customer:

I'm on the wifi

Customer:

But that is a different provider that shaw

Toby K. :

so you are on their network, hmm

Toby K. :

oh

Toby K. :

ok, come off that network and try the virgin mobile

Toby K. :

that is most likely the problem

Customer:

nope, my shaw webmail is under my Mom's shaw account now. we just moved out to an acreage and shaw doesn't come out here

Customer:

we're with shockware

Toby K. :

MOST internet service providers will not allow you to send email on their network using another smtp server

Toby K. :

its a preventative measure to stop spammers

Customer:

oh ok. so I won't be able to send then. that sucks

Toby K. :

or you can use the shockware smtp servers

Toby K. :

but try coming off of wifi which will put you on the virgin mobile network

Toby K. :

and then see if it works

Customer:

ah ok

Toby K. :

usually cell phone companies do not enforce such blocks

Customer:

k

Customer:

oh I couldn't find where to change the name back without the shaw.ca for the outgoing. it only says smtp mail.shaw.ca under outgoing

Customer:

and it won't send again

Toby K. :

ok..did you want to try readding the account again

Toby K. :

:)

Toby K. :

without being on the wifi network

Customer:

k will do

Toby K. :

sorry

Customer:

give me a sec again

Customer:

oh no worries ;) verifying again

Toby K. :

k

Customer:

now it says the IMAP server pop.shaw.ca is not responding. to check my network connection and that i entered the correct info in the incoming mail server field.

Customer:

i hit ok

Toby K. :

and you are able to access the internet on the virgin network, right

Customer:

yes. I'll go onto safari hang on

Customer:

yep

Toby K. :

k

Toby K. :

and it wont find the incoming server

Toby K. :

thats odd

Customer:

I have pop.shaw.ca in the incoming mail server and my email address less the @shaw.ca for the user name

Customer:

and I'm on 3G now not wifi

Toby K. :

yeah, that is correct

Customer:

crap i hit cancel by mistake so it didn't save. let me try it all again

Toby K. :

k

Toby K. :

i have no idea why we are getting different results on the different networks

Customer:

verifying again

Toby K. :

k

Customer:

crap it says Imap server is not reponding etc again. maybe i need to call shaw??

Toby K. :

yeah, and ask them if they have another smtp server configuration

Toby K. :

atleast you can check your email

Toby K. :

i know you cant respond, but I think that is the other ISP blocking it

Customer:

this is true. k

Toby K. :

a way around all of this, if Shaw would allow an secure, SSL, authenticated connection

Toby K. :

then you could use their SMTP server on everyone's network

Customer:

what is ssl vs smtp?

Toby K. :

SSL is secure...smtp is the outgoing server

Customer:

I am not a computer person at all, just know how to use one

Toby K. :

ssl would be the connection

Toby K. :

to the srever

Toby K. :

yeah

Toby K. :

i would call them and ask them if they have another smtp server or another configuration to use on your phone

Toby K. :

sorry, I couldnt been more of assistance

Customer:

ok thanks. so do I just pay now? I've never used this service

Toby K. :

if you are satisfied, you can click accept

Customer:

no worries, you totally taught me how to do it, it's just shaw being jerks!!

Toby K. :

lol

Customer:

ok. I just want to write down all your info in the beginning of our convo if that's cool

Toby K. :

ok, sounds good

Toby K. :

take your time

Customer:

sweet, thanks again. Have an awesome rest of your weekend ;)

Toby K. :

thank you..you too

Toby K. :

have a good night

Customer:

you know what... I forgot to hit POP for before saving. lol!

Customer:

but still can't send . Anyway thanks again. bye ;)
