Customer Question

My ipod is acting as if it is locked even though it isn't. It does not respond to any button presses and stays stuck on the same screen even if I attach it to my computer via USB. My computer detects it but my iTunes does not. It has not been damaged and was working fine less than an hour ago. Is there anything I can do to solve this problem?

Mac Extraordinaire :

Greetings,

Which model of iPod are you having this problem with?

Customer :

Hi, sorry for the delayed response it is an ipod classic

Mac Extraordinaire :

Thank you for the update.

Mac Extraordinaire :

One moment, please.

Mac Extraordinaire :

Does your version of iPod have a click wheel, scroll wheel, touch wheel or something else on the front panel?

Customer :

it has a wheel, not sure what kind but its menu at the top, play/pause on the bottom, a center button and back and forward buttons on the side. Rotating it goes up and down the menu and controls the volume

Mac Extraordinaire :

Thank you

Mac Extraordinaire :

- Turn the Hold switch on, then off.
- Press and hold the Play/Pause button and the Menu button at the same time.

Hold that down until the screen changes and you see the Apple logo.

Mac Extraordinaire :

That will reset the iPod and force to to reboot.

Customer :

how long should the buttons be held?

Customer :

the screen is still locked

Mac Extraordinaire :

ok

Mac Extraordinaire :

It should only take about 8 seconds.

Mac Extraordinaire :

Please, plug in the iPod into it's power adapter and plug it into the wall.

Once it is plugged in, please try to reset it once more.

Mac Extraordinaire :

If that still does not work, press and hold the CENTER button and the MENU button at the same time until you see it reset.

Customer :

okay the center button option worked

Mac Extraordinaire :

Fantastic!

Customer :

thanks a lot man I really appreciate it

Mac Extraordinaire :

This is a good thing to remember for any future problems (knock on wood).

Mac Extraordinaire :

Thank you for your time and patience :)

Mac Extraordinaire :

You may click the Accept button on the bottom right of your screen & click Ok now and leave any feedback for me that you feel is appropriate.

Thank you,
- Jason

Mac Extraordinaire :

I wish you a sparkling rest of your Saturday.

Mac Extraordinaire :

Thank you again.
