Welcome back. :-)
There are several anti-virus programs for the Mac but in most cases, you don't need one. Macs are well-known to be virus free.
If you would like one anyway to feel safe, there are a few I can recommend to you.
First, is ClamXav which is based on the very popular ClamAV engine that is used by most mail servers today. It is free for the Mac here: http://www.clamxav.com/
Avast! is a very well-known anti-virus for Windows and they recently developed a Mac version as well. It is, however, a paid anti-virus. With this, you get support and updates. You can read more about it here: http://www.avast.com/mac-edition
Avast! for Mac is $40/year.
do you use any of those yourself?
No, I do not. I've been using Macs for about 15 years now (since the Mac Plus) and I have not once used an antivirus program on the Mac. I have never seen the need for one and in most cases it ends up slowing the system down because it scans everything you do, view and download.
It can be very inconvenient at times especially when playing games (which I do a lot of).
ok, great, thanks
if you don't mind..
just on the hotspot (VPN) program... are there any disadvantages to using it?
so for a long time..if I'm streaming pandora alot
not sure scrambling IP does....if there's a danger in doing so or not
The only disadvantage of it is that you might notice some slowness on the internet as it is channeling your connection to somewhere else that other people might be using
There is no security concerns as it uses a VPN connection which is very secure.
oh I see....so other that slowness, that's about it
I, personally, would only use it when I needed Pandora or a US resource.
and on Pandora
But test it out and see if it works for you.
I'm listening to music now
but it's only playing on my computer..
And in fact...
Just Answer says you are asking from the United States
Whereas the previous questions said Canada
so in order to have it stream on my airport express, I will need to use that other program you recommended?
So it's working. :-)
Correct, just play Pandora and use AirFoil.
so I should buy airfoil then?
Id' only hear it on the computer?
I would recommend it. I own a copy of it, well worth it, in my opinion.
might be worth purchasing for that reason along
thanks so much!
