How can I get my built in microphone to work. The sound test

Customer Question

How can I get my built in microphone to work. The sound test is negative but I can see and hear the receiving party (but they can't hear me).

Hello, my name is Dan.
I will do my best to help you, the only stupid question is the unasked one.
What application are you using to converse with your friends?
That is most likely where the problem lies if the sound settings in system preferences tell you that everything is working.

Hi Daniel. I'm using skype. With the help of my tech-smart step son, we've got this figured out. My microphone settings were set for an external microphone whereas this iMac has got an internal one.He found where the settings were, located and adjusted accordingly. Everything works fine now. Sorry to have troubled you. Art
