I bought a ipod that is 80g and i locked it not knowing that

I bought a ipod that is 80g and i locked it not knowing that there was a lock code and the person that i bought it off of doesnt even remember the code how do i reset it

Since we don't know the passcode, the only way to get out of it is to restore the ipod to factory settings.

yes and i just created an account

let's open the itunes and connect the ipod

To the left side of the itunes, your ipod should show up under "devices"

Let's try a reset now. Make sure the hold button is off (ie you don't see the orange or the red color). Then press and hold the menu and the center button together until you see an apple logo

i did that already and when it turns off it shows the locked sign still

I understand. But we need the ipod to show up in itunes. That is what we are trying. If you have already tried a reset by connecting the ipod to the computer, there is no need to try it again. Let's disconnect the ipod then

yes and i even restarted the itunes and it said that the store wasnt available at this time so that doesnt even matter right?

Ipod Specialist :

Now, press and hold the menu and the center button together until you see an apple. The very moment you see an apple, press and hold the center button and the play/pause button together. This should place the ipod into disc mode.

Ipod Specialist :

We need to connect to the store to restore ipod. We will check that next. Let's place the ipod into disc mode first.

First of all we need the ipod to show up in itunes. Which version of itunes do you have? To check that click on the Help menu at the top, Help > About itunes.

that might be the reason the ipod is not showing up and also you are not able to connect to the store. It is a very old version of itunes

Not as big as US is. I haven't travelled out of South India thus far. But it takes only around 3 hours to travel from one end to another by air.

May be an uninstall and reinstall of itunes and its components would help.

It is better the ipod is in disc mode to get it restored. If you want to go to the regular screen, you can always do that by just resetting it.
