SO I understand you are having an issue with your email on the iPad?
that's correct - it worked for a while, but I do not recall what the settings were
Have you got your iPad with you?
Ok... Can you make sure you have a working internet connection by clicking on Safari and opening up any website you want...
So now click on the Settings app on your iPad
then select Mail, Contacts and Calendars
Are there any accounts in there at the moment?
Is it the one not working?
Select it, then scroll to the bottom and press Delete Account
Now click add account
and select Other
Add Mail Account
now is your email [email protected]
yes: [email protected]
it automatically gets blocked out on here
you need to type like this:
So fill out your name, where it says email address fill that out...
Do you know your password? If so, fill that in (being very careful not to make a mistake) and under description just leave it as the default
Ok... Now select POP not IMAP
Before that, in the field Name do I put Robert Kelham or rkelham - I am referring to the info in my outlook account on this laptop which works fine?

done I have hit next and selected POP
What is the nearest major city to you?
under incoming mail server put this
now under username I need you to put in rkelham
Now do exactly the same for outgoing mail server
and put in your password XXXXX both too
So just to confirm:
shawmail.cg.shawcable.net in both
with rkelham as username
and the password XXXXX know to be correct
Now press save
Your emails loading up?
Go back to the Home page and go into your Mail application
It is 'Verifying - now message says "Cannot connect ot SSL do you want to try setting up the account without SSL"
Do without SSL
done - it is Veryfying
Are the settings I gave you any different to the settings Shaw teh support gave you?
yes - they had something shorter for incoming and i think the same for outgoing - one tech suggested the rogerswirelessdata in outgoing
Has it Verified yet?
it's come up with the same "cannot connect using SSL....." hit yes

yes and new message says smpt doesn't support password XXXXX As I recall it was set on the first of four options - two words hyphenated
i have the domain kelham.ca, which "forwards" to shaw.ca and I cannot do without the shaw address.
So where are we at now? What can you see?
I am still on the window with the incoming and outgoing fields
Delete the password XXXXX the Outgoing box
And then press Save again

message: the POP server "shawmail...." is not responding. it's 11.40 here
it says to check the incoming host name
According to Shaw's own website.. If Calgary is the closest city to you... That should be it
yes - this is what I expected, but the info I was given by one Shaw Tech was different - and it worked for a while and when it failed I tried other Host Name settings and have forgotten what the settings were.Each time I phone i get a differnt tech and only the first one knew the correct settings.....
Are you a Roger's Wireless customer?
And are you back at the setup screen?
If you are under incoming please enter these details:
and your password
for outgoing use these settings:
no - Telus - one web page suggested using rogerswirelessdata.? and the "successful tech told me to use a telus "wording" (the one that worked)
no password XXXXX username
be careful you dont type SMPT it is SMTP

Server (first field) is set to On. Authentication set to "MD5 Challenge-Response"
Is there a password XXXXX?
as in... When you click on MD5 Challenge Response do you have the option to change that to Password?
and make sure the Outgoing Server port is 25
yes - i deleted it and it now Verifying
yes - there are four options one is Password XXXXX is MD5 etc. Still Verifying

the top field is Server with on/off option - which one to choose

So when it worked you were using the Telus not the Rogerwireless server?
And how come you lost all your settings?
Correct. I lost them because the email quit working and I fiddled with the settings and did not record the original, working, settings (shame on me). Still Verifying
If it fails the Verify again... Can you go the Mail app anyway, and see if you're receiving messages?
Message: smtp.telus.net not responding - but this address sounds familiar... Will do
email says the server is not responding (in and out - two messages)
try pop.telus.net for incoming with password XXXXX username
If none of these work, I have to admit I am stuck.
These are the only settings available

If all combination's of that fail, then it actually makes no sense.
It's verifying, I believe the settings you suggest are the correct ones - by memory. right now I think I have different incoming entered - will change when it lets me.
Let me know when you do.

It seems to be a VERY common problem amongst iPad users with Shaw email address...
The answer is a mixture of the settings we have already tried it seems...
i visited the site you suggest and followed their instructions without success - this was a few days ago.
There doesn't seem to be a surefire way of fixing the issue.
Different things for different people...
I suggest the last thing you should try, is deleting the account again...
Starting from scratch
and using the details provided on that website I sent you
