The Mac Daddy :

Welcome to JustAnswer.com, I would be happy to help!

The Mac Daddy :

Hi

The Mac Daddy :

SO I understand you are having an issue with your email on the iPad?

Customer :

that's correct - it worked for a while, but I do not recall what the settings were

The Mac Daddy :

Have you got your iPad with you?

Customer :

yes

The Mac Daddy :

Ok... Can you make sure you have a working internet connection by clicking on Safari and opening up any website you want...

Customer :

Internet working

The Mac Daddy :

Ok

The Mac Daddy :

So now click on the Settings app on your iPad

Customer :

done

The Mac Daddy :

then select Mail, Contacts and Calendars

Customer :

done

The Mac Daddy :

Are there any accounts in there at the moment?

Customer :

yes

The Mac Daddy :

Are there any accounts in there at the moment?

The Mac Daddy :

Is it the one not working?

Customer :

yes

The Mac Daddy :

Ok

The Mac Daddy :

Select it, then scroll to the bottom and press Delete Account

Customer :

done

The Mac Daddy :

Now click add account

The Mac Daddy :

and select Other

Customer :

done

The Mac Daddy :

Add Mail Account

The Mac Daddy :

now is your email XXXXXXXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX ?

Customer :

done

Customer :

yes: XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX

The Mac Daddy :

sorry

The Mac Daddy :

it automatically gets blocked out on here

The Mac Daddy :

you need to type like this:

The Mac Daddy :

something(at)shae.ca

Customer :

rkelham(at)shaw.ca

The Mac Daddy :

ok

The Mac Daddy :

So fill out your name, where it says email address fill that out...

The Mac Daddy :

Do you know your password? If so, fill that in (being very careful not to make a mistake) and under description just leave it as the default

Customer :

done

The Mac Daddy :

Ok... Now select POP not IMAP

Customer :

Before that, in the field Name do I put Robert Kelham or rkelham - I am referring to the info in my outlook account on this laptop which works fine?

The Mac Daddy :

Your full name

The Mac Daddy :

that's what you want your emails to appear From

Customer :

done I have hit next and selected POP

The Mac Daddy :

What is the nearest major city to you?

Customer :

Calgary

The Mac Daddy :

under incoming mail server put this

The Mac Daddy :

shawmail.cg.shawcable.net

Customer :

Done

The Mac Daddy :

now under username I need you to put in rkelham

Customer :

Done

The Mac Daddy :

Now do exactly the same for outgoing mail server

The Mac Daddy :

and put in your password XXXXX both too

Customer :

Done

The Mac Daddy :

So just to confirm:

The Mac Daddy :

we have:

The Mac Daddy :

shawmail.cg.shawcable.net in both

The Mac Daddy :

with rkelham as username

The Mac Daddy :

and the password XXXXX know to be correct

The Mac Daddy :

The Mac Daddy :

Your emails loading up?

The Mac Daddy :

Go back to the Home page and go into your Mail application

Customer :

It is 'Verifying - now message says "Cannot connect ot SSL do you want to try setting up the account without SSL"

The Mac Daddy :

Yes

The Mac Daddy :

Do without SSL

Customer :

done - it is Veryfying

The Mac Daddy :

ok

The Mac Daddy :

Are the settings I gave you any different to the settings Shaw teh support gave you?

Customer :

yes - they had something shorter for incoming and i think the same for outgoing - one tech suggested the rogerswirelessdata in outgoing

The Mac Daddy :

Has it Verified yet?

Customer :

it's come up with the same "cannot connect using SSL....." hit yes

The Mac Daddy :

You want to connect without using SSL

Customer :

It's Verifying again

The Mac Daddy :

Is the wireless connection you are using provided by Shaw?

The Mac Daddy :

and have you ever considered getting a GMail account, or getting your own email domain?

Customer :

yes and new message says smpt doesn't support password XXXXX As I recall it was set on the first of four options - two words hyphenated

Customer :

i have the domain kelham.ca, which "forwards" to shaw.ca and I cannot do without the shaw address.

The Mac Daddy :

ok...

The Mac Daddy :

So where are we at now? What can you see?

Customer :

I am still on the window with the incoming and outgoing fields

The Mac Daddy :

Ok

The Mac Daddy :

Delete the password XXXXX the Outgoing box

Customer :

Done

The Mac Daddy :

And then press Save again

Customer :

Verifying....

The Mac Daddy :

Apologies this is taking time

The Mac Daddy :

I'm in NYC at the moment and its 138am over here... I'm guessing it is just as late in Alberta...

Customer :

message: the POP server "shawmail...." is not responding. it's 11.40 here

Customer :

it says to check the incoming host name

The Mac Daddy :

shawmail.cg.shawcable.net

The Mac Daddy :

According to Shaw's own website.. If Calgary is the closest city to you... That should be it

Customer :

yes - this is what I expected, but the info I was given by one Shaw Tech was different - and it worked for a while and when it failed I tried other Host Name settings and have forgotten what the settings were. Each time I phone i get a differnt tech and only the first one knew the correct settings.....

The Mac Daddy :

Are you a Roger's Wireless customer?

The Mac Daddy :

And are you back at the setup screen?

The Mac Daddy :

If you are under incoming please enter these details:

The Mac Daddy :

pop.shaw.ca

The Mac Daddy :

rkelham

The Mac Daddy :

and your password

The Mac Daddy :

for outgoing use these settings:

Customer :

no - Telus - one web page suggested using rogerswirelessdata.? and the "successful tech told me to use a telus "wording" (the one that worked)

The Mac Daddy :

smtp.telus.net

The Mac Daddy :

for outgoing

The Mac Daddy :

no password XXXXX username

The Mac Daddy :

be careful you dont type SMPT it is SMTP

Customer :

Done

The Mac Daddy :

ok

The Mac Daddy :

Now click save

The Mac Daddy :

and cross your fingers

Customer :

I had the wrong spelling! it is Verifying

The Mac Daddy :

It's a common error

Customer :

fingers crossed - or uncrossed re spelling

The Mac Daddy :

So it's verifying with the wrong spelling? Or with the correct spelling?

Customer :

with correct spelling - still Verifying

Customer :

message; smtp.telus.net not responding, check etc

Customer :

Server (first field) is set to On. Authentication set to "MD5 Challenge-Response"

The Mac Daddy :

Is there a password XXXXX?

The Mac Daddy :

as in... When you click on MD5 Challenge Response do you have the option to change that to Password?

The Mac Daddy :

and make sure the Outgoing Server port is 25

Customer :

yes - i deleted it and it now Verifying

Customer :

yes - there are four options one is Password XXXXX is MD5 etc. Still Verifying

The Mac Daddy :

Change it to password...

Customer :

the top field is Server with on/off option - which one to choose

The Mac Daddy :

Server On

The Mac Daddy :

Password

The Mac Daddy :

smtp.telus.net

The Mac Daddy :

Port 25

The Mac Daddy :

This is all for the OUTGOING server

Customer :

Still verifying - with Server off. I will change when it quits. Fields you have listed are as listed

The Mac Daddy :

Ok...

The Mac Daddy :

So when it worked you were using the Telus not the Rogerwireless server?

The Mac Daddy :

And how come you lost all your settings?

Customer :

Correct. I lost them because the email quit working and I fiddled with the settings and did not record the original, working, settings (shame on me). Still Verifying

The Mac Daddy :

If it fails the Verify again... Can you go the Mail app anyway, and see if you're receiving messages?

Customer :

Message: smtp.telus.net not responding - but this address sounds familiar... Will do

Customer :

email says the server is not responding (in and out - two messages)

The Mac Daddy :

ok...

The Mac Daddy :

try pop.telus.net for incoming with password XXXXX username

The Mac Daddy :

port 110

The Mac Daddy :

outgoing smtp.telus.net

The Mac Daddy :

no password

The Mac Daddy :

no user

The Mac Daddy :

port 25

The Mac Daddy :

If none of these work, I have to admit I am stuck.

The Mac Daddy :

These are the only settings available

The Mac Daddy :

I found this HOW-TO guide on the internet...

The Mac Daddy :

Try that

The Mac Daddy :

If all combination's of that fail, then it actually makes no sense.

Customer :

It's verifying, I believe the settings you suggest are the correct ones - by memory. right now I think I have different incoming entered - will change when it lets me.

The Mac Daddy :

Ok

The Mac Daddy :

Let me know when you do.

Customer :

Still verifying....

Customer :

Corrected and Verifying

Customer :

Still verifying. I am willing to leave this with you for a day or so if you feel that would be useful.....

Customer :

pop.telus.net not responding....

The Mac Daddy :

Ok

The Mac Daddy :

It seems to be a VERY common problem amongst iPad users with Shaw email address...

The Mac Daddy :

The answer is a mixture of the settings we have already tried it seems...

Customer :

i visited the site you suggest and followed their instructions without success - this was a few days ago.

The Mac Daddy :

There doesn't seem to be a surefire way of fixing the issue.

The Mac Daddy :

Different things for different people...

The Mac Daddy :

I suggest the last thing you should try, is deleting the account again...

The Mac Daddy :

Starting from scratch

The Mac Daddy :

and using the details provided on that website I sent you

The Mac Daddy :

As that is the closest we have been

The Mac Daddy :

Leave it with me if you want... And I'll have a look round to see if there are any answers.

The Mac Daddy :

Sorry we couldn't sort it out tonight.

The Mac Daddy :

But I feel we tried every option!

Customer :

How do we hook up again?

The Mac Daddy :

I'll change this to a question and answer session. You will receive an email with a link to the page.

The Mac Daddy :

It wont be a chat like this, but a message board style, where I post a question/answer and you reply etc...

The Mac Daddy :

If I can't find the answer for you, I'll open the question and someone who does know might jump on and solve it...

The Mac Daddy :

I don't get paid unless you click ACCEPT

The Mac Daddy :

So you haven't paid for this

The Mac Daddy :

I'll do some digging tomorrow.

Customer :

works for me. will it be like emailing each other?

The Mac Daddy :

Kind of... You will receive an email every time I respond.

The Mac Daddy :

Click on the email link and it will bring you to the message board.

The Mac Daddy :

Then if you are satisfied you can ACCEPT my answer.

Customer :

Thanks. Let's quit for now

Hi Mr Kelham,

Sorry, but I have been searching for the answer to this, and other than the things we already tried the other evening, there are no other settings I can give you...

I have other ideas about forwarding your email etc, but you said the Shaw email was very important so those options are out...

I'm going to open this question to the rest of my colleagues to see if they can help you.

Apologies in the delay getting back to you, but wanted to exhaust all avenues before giving you an answer.
