You need to rebuild the library

Back up the iPhoto library by copying it to desktop.

Joseph :

Delete all the subfolders and photos in iPhoto.

Joseph :

Add folder by folder , back to the iPhoto

Try editing.

I tried to do what was provided above, but it didn't work. I asked additional questions and got no response. Finally, gave up and bought iLife 11 and installed it. iPhoto works fine now.
