OSXpert :

Hi, my name is Britton. Are you available?

Customer :

hey you're back!

OSXpert :

that's me :)

Customer :

yeah i actually got the install dvd

OSXpert :

good deal

Customer :

but now i can't figure out how to erase everything & reinstall all the apps

Customer :

i don't want to save anything off my old computer

OSXpert :

I gotcha -- have you backed up all of your stuff? Doing this will wipe the drive clean...

OSXpert :

oops, you beat me to it, sorry

Customer :

haha

OSXpert :

:)

OSXpert :

Are you using your Mac now?

Customer :

my other one

Customer :

so no i'm not talking to you on the one i want to erase

OSXpert :

Okay good. Insert the Mac OS X install disc, then reboot

Customer :

okay did that

OSXpert :

hold down the 'C' key while the machine boots

Customer :

ok

Customer :

let me try again

OSXpert :

you tried holding 'C' before?

Customer :

no

Customer :

lol doing it now though

OSXpert :

okay cool

Customer :

how long

OSXpert :

did it boot into the install disc?

Customer :

i still see the apple and wheel

OSXpert :

well, is it taking longer than normal to boot?

Customer :

yes

OSXpert :

cool, it might take a few minutes to boot from the disc

Customer :

ok

OSXpert :

Let me know when it finishes

Customer :

ok

OSXpert :

also, what time zone are you in...may have to come back to this depending on the install...

Customer :

eastern

Customer :

keep holding the c still?

OSXpert :

you can let go

Customer :

does it normally take this long?

OSXpert :

well, it should just take a few minutes

OSXpert :

what is it doing?

Customer :

just the apple and the timewheel

Customer :

for a second the timewheel slowed down but then sped back up

OSXpert :

hmm, shouldn't take this long. Give it another 5 mins or so, then we'll reboot and try again

Customer :

okay

Customer :

try again?

OSXpert :

yeah

OSXpert :

sorry for the delay...one sec...

OSXpert :

k, sorry

OSXpert :

go ahead and try again. Is the face of the disc scratched at all?

OSXpert :

Let me know what it's doing...

Customer :

do i let go of the c when i see the apple and wheel

OSXpert :

yeah, that's fine

OSXpert :

as soon as you see the apple logo you can let go

Customer :

okay ill let you know if it boots

OSXpert :

cool, thx

Customer :

yay noww what

Customer :

go through the prompts

Customer :

?

OSXpert :

nice, it booted?

Customer :

yes

OSXpert :

okay cool...

Customer :

it says mac os x can't be installed on this computer

OSXpert :

doh!

Customer :

what does that mean

OSXpert :

Did you go buy a copy of snow leopard?

Customer :

no my friend brought her mac book disc

Customer :

lol

Customer :

wrong thing?

OSXpert :

yeah, that won't work. Apple codes those discs so they only work with specific models. We can get it to work, but it is a lot of work. Not worth it...

OSXpert :

can you spare $30?

Customer :

oh god

OSXpert :

I know, it's a pain :(

Customer :

yes but now i don't think the applications dvd i had from her will work either

Customer :

so it would set me back 90 just to delete everything

OSXpert :

well, that one might -- never tried installing one from a different comp, but it might work

OSXpert :

which apps do you need?

Customer :

just whatever would get deleted

Customer :

i think im going to just delete everything myself

Customer :

this is getting pretty retarded

OSXpert :

it can be a pain if you don't have all the discs

Customer :

yeah thank you though
