You can correct this by running through the password XXXXX steps within iTunes.
Open iTunes, then click the iTunes store login link at the top right corner of the screen:
Attachments are only available to registered users.
This will open a new browser window. Follow the prompts to reset the password, then you will be able to sync your apps.

When I push the iTunes icon on the iphone screen I get an ATT screen with a Q search box.
When I click Safari, Apple\ itunes, I get dandy information on opening my own accounting business.

I would give the email authentication just a bit of time...this is the only way to reset it and it could be delayed from Apple.
If you install iTunes on your Mac, are you able to log into the iTunes store with your new password?
