I have a macbook pro with snow leopard . I have just purchased

Resolved Question:

I have a macbook pro with snow leopard . I have just purchased a 1 TB WD passport device to replace the 320GB one that works perfectly . I have connected the new 1tb passport but can not copy files or drag and drop files into it.A sort of no entry sign appears on he icon/file i am trying to drag , when over the passport icon.

When looking at get info it says the device is read only and formatted for ntfs .
Any suggestions how to get around this problem. The device is sold as formatted for all mac osx.

Hi My name isXXXXX hope i can help you.

Macs can only read NTFS partition but can't write to it. So you have to format it as an Mac OS Partition.

  • Goto Applications/Utilities/ and open DiskUtility
  • Now connect your hard drive into your Mac.
  • Select the WD External drive in left column.
  • At the “Volume Format” select “Mac OS Journaled/Extended”
  • If you confirm to format your hard disk, Click on “Erase” button.
  • If the erase process finished, your external hard disk is ready to use for your Mac.
