Hi yes you can try Vuescan to do this and its OCR function :

Your scanner is supported under Vuescan .

OCR software , which turns a printed document or magazine page into editable text.

Other OCR / scanning software.

Convert your Paper Documents into Editable Text!

Readiris 12 family quickly converts your paper documents into editable text or PDF files you can edit, share and store!

Both Vuescan and Readiris are Mac & Pc compatible :)

Your scanner is supported under Readiris .

Both products have demo versions , try each and see which suits you best .

My question was not a Mac question but a Canon one.
Both my Canon mp 630 and my HP 309a (both new machines) will not save a scanned document into Word like their predecessor an hp Office jet would.
This seems like progress in reverse.

Hi, i am not familiar with the HP office jet , and MS Word , documents .

Do you know what file type the scanner saved out as ?

Vue scan maybe able to save the document as a editable file type , that you need etc . i.e compatible to load in to Word and edit.

I am not sure i am answering your question ?
