How do I install a new directory on a HD that has been zeroed out?
Optional Information: Computer OS: Mac OS XBrowser: Other Already Tried: Don't know where to start.
Hello there! I would love to help. First you have to format the drive for use with a mac. Are you able to enter the osx system or do you have the original disks that came with your mac?
I bought this G4 MDD on eBay to run non-Intel and OS9 apps. It came with ) OS10.4 sans OS9. Unable to UG, I tried an HD I had from a previously owned (by me) G4 MDD. Trying everything, I zeroed out the drive (Seagate 400GB Internal ATA/100) and now Disk Warrior won't touch it.I have disks for 9.1, 10.3, 10.4 and 10.5. Installation 10.4 and 10.5 both failed.I'm an illustrator (i.e. non-techie)
When you say that installing 10.4 and 10.5 failed did you receive an error? if so what was the exact error?
In both cases the installer verified the installer disk and progressed until BSD Subsystem install and at that point simply said "Installation Failed, please try again. OS 10.3 was successfully installed, but without Classic. Don't know how to install Classic with OSX. I have not tried to install 10.4 over 10.3.When I attempted to use DiskWarrior on the HD it refused to even try.
It might be as to which format the drive is. Can you boot from either 10.4 and us the utility function that is above the installer window. There you can select disk utility and format the drive to mac os extended journaled. Once that drive is formatted try and install 10.4. Then insert the DVD, and open that disk, you'll see the install package for Other Software, run that and choose to install Classic. That's all that is needed. If this worked please let me know by accepting my answer thank you!
