Yes, the mac does support storing audio files on external hard drives. any standard hard drive will do. LaCie makes good drives, but as long as its an external hard drive it should be good.

Thanks for confirming that LaCie was a good hard drive. But my question was wider than that: can you suggest the names of other suitable hard drives for my Mac OS 10.4.11?

Iomega makes some good hard drives as does western digital although Lacie and iomega are superior in my
opinion. Seagate also
makes great internal drives.
