I want to purchase a camcorder for the sole purpose of recording

Resolved Question:

I want to purchase a camcorder for the sole purpose of recording my daughters soccer games with which I will edit and make cd's to send to college coaches. I've found that Sony specifically states that their software is not compatible with Mac. Any suggestions for software programs and camcorder brands? My Mac has iMovie.

Hello, I am John Cappucci, Computer Science Engineer. I will be happy to help you.

You have some choices

1- Flip Video UltraHD Camcorder

$199 from apple.com ---> http://store.apple.com/us/product/TW530LL/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY

Or Just $149 from Amazon.com (no tax and free shipping) ---> http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=unarebajitaco-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=B0023B14TK&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr

2- More expensive choices here ---> http://store.apple.com/us/search?find=camcorder&mco=Nzc1MjMwNg

3- Also you can ask directly on a Sony Store, for example I have a JVC camcorder that does not come with Mac software and says it is compatible only with PC. But when I plug it into my iMac using a firewire cable, it works! without preinstalling any software and I can edit the movies with iMovie. It's just JVC does not want to give support to Macs.

So, it is possible Sony Camcorders work too, but I would ask first at any Sony Store for "not supported" -but working on Mac- cameras

The flip isn't going to work for several reasons. The games are a minimum of 90 minutes. I will need a zoom somewhere between 10x-25x. I am willing to pay up around 400.00. I researched Sony for hours and I would expect you to know, not have me ask about compatibility at the stores. They're salespeople not TECH people.
