My Mac Airport application disappeared! don't know why or when (haven't needed it for 2 months). please help and thanks

The wireless icon is missing from the top of the screen?

Nope, that's fine. My first post was just an info request. You only need to click accept when we've solved the problem.
If you go to System Preferences->Network, is the AirPort adapter listed?

In the Network area, in the Show dropdown, select Airport and make sure that the box at the bottom next to "Show AirPort status in menu bar" is checked.

can't see that option --is it on the system pref's display
or after I click onto Network (I also don't see htat option there, either

I still don't know what to do. See my prior reply to your instructions, i.e. in network 'area', ...drop down...=where is that?

It is inside System Preferences->Network. Maybe it's different in some versions of OS X, but this is what I see:

I found it. it's now in menu bar. but I'lll have to disconnect my online (wired) in order to know that it works via airport only

So I'll close this connection and test airport and then reply to you IF it still doesn't work (and I'll also try to reply here or via email.
