For some reason my sound output just turned off. If I plug-in

Customer Question

For some reason my sound output just turned off. If I plug-in my earphones, I can hear, but once I unplug them, there's no sound again. And when I try adjusting the volume, it gives me a little circle with a slash through it, indicating no. But I know that the volume must somehow work because when I restart my computer it makes the start-up noise. Help please!

Hello, I am John Cappuccio, Computer Science Engineer. I will be happy to help you.

What Mac model do you have ? laptop or desktop ?

Thank you
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
It's a MacBook, so a laptop.

Thank you, XXXXX XXXXX this is a known issue for Macbooks

Sometimes the audio jack sensor "thinks" that the external speakers or earphones are still there...

Take a toothpick or a matchstick or some other relatively gentle utensil and stick it in the earphones jack and move it around. (no metal sticks or utensils, please!)

If no luck I am afraid you will need to go to the "Genius Bar" at the Apple Store.

Please let me know if it worked or not

Thank you
