All my Excel spreadsheets in my new 2009 g3 imac are labeld

This answer was rated:

All my Excel spreadsheets in my new 2009 g3 imac are labeld numerically instead of alphabetically, so I can't used formulas. Also, the procedure for generating mailing labels from a spreadsheet have changed - I don't know hat a placeholder is. When I tried Microsoft Help it says this Excel isn't Microsoft Excel 2008 for Mac, despite it being so named right here on my screen: Version 12/1/2 (080729) Latest installed update 12/1/2, and suggests I click a "choose product" link that does not exist. It's 4:30 am and I need help. Thanks.

Are you talking about the column headings on top which should be A, B, C etc..?

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
yes, instead of A, B, C etc. the columns are headed 1,2,3 etc.

In Excel 2008 go to Preferences then look for "R1C1 reference style" and uncheck the box next to it.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
