Resolved Question:

I HAVE BEEN GIVEN AN HP PRINTER 5510, AND INSTALLED ON MY MAC OS 10.6.
I CANNOT LOCATE "THE DIRECTOR" SO I CAN CHECK INK SUPPLY.THE DIRECTOR DOES NOT APPEAR ON LOWER DOCK. HOW DO I ACCESS IT?

This is one of the times where I give you an answer that is technically correct, but probably not the one you are looking for. The HP 5500 series only supports a basic drivers and will not support advanced features such as ink level checking or advanced diagnostics.
